Well, you didn't help, LR Wink

But... as cool as I think they look and as much as I'd like to have one, reality is that it would hang in my closet for 9+ months of the year; and the 3 months that I'd use it would be once a week (my riding frequency). Not a great investment (the one I like is about $500).

I got this jacket from Wilson's Leather for under $200 and I really like it.

looks really nice! ....but I just looked and the only thing under $200 on their site is FAUX-LEATHER

You can buy that jacket online now for $160 total. You have to put in the promo code at checkout and you get an additional 60% off.

The problem with buying jackets online is fit. Some things just have to be tried on in the store. And, with used items, the seller may not want to accept a return.

I just went to the Wilsons Leather site and went through the process of buying a jacket and the 60% off was applied automatically at check-out. So the actual prices make everything look much more attractive.

BUT, what good is an all leather jacket (serious question)? I ride in a jacket that looks leather at first glance because the outside of the sleeves and the shoulder are leather however most of the jacket is a black mesh which allows me to wear this in the summer. Wouldn't an all leather jacket be too hot for summer use and yet not warm enough for winter use? Give me some reason to buy one, lol.

Poastoak, I've worn leather for 45 years and wear them between 32 degrees and 90 degrees. It's actually quite versatile. More versatile than any single textile jacket I own. The problems with leather are, it's expensive, usually not very fashionable or colorful, and usually doesn't come with or is adaptable to installing armor (There are exceptions of course) and when it gets wet it gets extremely heavy and takes forever to dry out, at which point it really needs some leather treatment. The strong points of leather are the temperature extremes at which it can be comfortably worn, the abrasion resistance it provides in a slide, and the fact that it doesn't last for a few years, but for a few decades, as long as you don't outgrow it. Plus there is just something about the smell and feel of a good leather jacket. It's luxurious.

I may wear my textile more these days due to their lighter weight, armor, more colorful etc, but I always have at least 2 leather jackets in the closet (right now I have 3 ... A Bomber style with quilted liner, a standard with zip out liner and a retro perforated), and I wear the standard jacket frequently, the perforated once it gets over 85 degrees. Don't wear the Bomber much but it looks great with an open face helmet on the CB lol.

So these full leather jackets have no armoring? My cheap leather and mesh jacket has armored elbows, shoulders, and some light armoring above the back bone. Of course, I know leather feels and looks great. I have a bomber jacket I bought in January of 1993 which is still going strong.

I have a high-rez mesh jacket that I love, but I don't wear it when it is below 65. My leather jacket is nice an warm when it is between 40 and 65. It feels great and fits great.

Postoak, generally no with regards to the armor but there are exceptions. MotoGP riders wear leather racing suits with armor and air bags, the leather for slide abrasion resistance, the armor for impact protection and the air bags for severe impact protection.

Armor is fairly new in this motorcycling game while leather protection is 100 years old. Eventually I suspect most leather motorcycle jackets will have armor as well, especially the new European D30 armor that is soft and flexible until impact at which point it becomes hard like the armor you probably have.
