New guy here, not a kid not a real old fart either,Im considering a 2018 Honda CB1100RS if they ever bring one to the States! Ive been riding a XSR900 for the past year and while it is loads of fun, my back doesnt like the tight suspension and rock hard seat.Im wonder what the seat on the new Hondas may be like and the shocks settings? Also, would the Honda be a great day trip bike? 300 + miles?

G'day Dfavata and welcome to the forum. Many of us struggle with the Honda seat and some deal with it with Corbins, K&H and other aftermarket products. Some of us cheapskates make the seat bearable with AirHawk cushions, sheepskins, beads and the like. I'm a cheapskate and I've ridden lots of kilometres on my bike so I guess it works.

Search is your friend around here.

Hello Howdy and welcome to the forum

How someone gets along with any motorcycle is so individual it's really hard to advise. Like Cormanus says, the seat bothers some, not others. I have ridden my stock seat 12 hours straight without issue. I have no problem with the bars or the foot pegs either. You just have to get one an ride it for awhile before deciding if you need to make any changes.

Thanks folks for the warm welcome!! Seems to be a really friendly forum as well!! Decisions...decisions.too many choices of bikes out there! Too many look like spaceships and sound like weedeaters! I think Honda has done this just about perfect, blending in an older real style of bike with some modern stuff as well!

Interesting. I’m sure others will correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall the seat causing much of a problem with back pain. Usually a pain in the posterior.

I don’t think it is likely that the RS will come to the US, but you can never tell what Honda will do.

I think riders 6 feet or taller might find the ergonomics of the CB1100 a little tight.

I rode a Honda CB500X for three summers. The riding position was perfect for my 6'2" height. The seat height is an inch taller because it is an adventure styled bike with a taller suspension. And the foot peg distance and placement was more comfortable.

I find the handlebars on my CB1100 EX a little farther forward, so my back is not straight up as it was on the CB500X. It is not as comfortable, but it does allow you to lean on the wind at highway speeds.

The seat on both the CB1100 and CB500X are horrible for me. In order to manufacture motorcycles for the vertically challenged the front of the seats are low and narrow. It feels like a 4 inch pipe wrapped with a bit of cheap foam. At the start of the riding season my butt starts to bother me within an hour. By the end of the season 2 hours is tolerable. Honda should talk to the people at Polaris. Their snowmobile seats are the lap of luxury.

I ride 400 to 500 kilometers - 250 to 310 miles on my day rides. I schedule my breakfast, lunch, fuel, and rest stops to avoid numb bum. But at my age (70+) it is also to avoid fatigue. If I tire, my riding skills in the twisties becomes sloppy. Riding fatigued and uncomfortable not enjoyable and sometimes dangerous.

Welcome to the forum Dfavata. I lived in the Albany area during most of my childhood years. My family lives there now. Great riding opportunities in any direction outside of the Capital District.

The first mod I made on my CB1100 was to have foam added to the front of the seat and move the butt support back as far as the uphosterer could move it. He was able to use the new, stock cover. That mod kept me from sliding forward but numbed my jewels. So, now I sit on a Corbin Gunfighter with an additional 1" foam, an AirHawk cushion and a sheepskin--all of which provide a tolerable sitting but I have yet to ride more than 50 miles in any one ride. The Corbin felt hard to me but was wider than the Honda seat. I wish I had had the opportunity to test ride a Corbin seat. Chances are I would have purchased another brand.

I'm 160 soaking wet and the shocks are too rigid for me, but that's true of most of the twin shockers I've had. I have a set of Ohlins custom made from http://www.motorcyclemetal.com/gpage32.html - paid real greenbacks for em but they are good.
