Bike Cam or Helmet Cam?
I’m looking for advice or relatable experiences regarding video cameras. I really want to have video rolling while I ride…just in case. Living in California affords me the opportunity to ride almost every day, and I do. 70 miles of daily commuting (more if I take the long way home), plus leisure rides means I ride at least 400 miles per week. My daily commute takes me from back roads of the rural foothills to the battle field of a freeway in the big city. That puts me up against a lot of different drivers, intersection types, and road scenarios. Primarily, I want a video record of any traffic incidents whether they’re they my fault or not. I also would like to capture and preserve some of my rides.
I’m exploring the pros and cons of bike-mounted cams vs. helmet cams and learning what features available and which are important to me. On one hand I like the idea of a bike mounted camera system that is wired into the bike, on the other hand I like the idea of a helmet camera that follows my head movements.
Bike Mounted
Pros:
• Powered by bike
• Multiple cameras possible
Cons:
• Fixed perspective
• Susceptible to vibrations
Helmet Mounted
Pros:
• Records from riders POV
• Follows head movement
Cons:
• Have to charge batteries
• Protrudes from helmet
Anyone have thoughts or experiences with video setups?
