May I ask 'why' to both statements?

Why DCT? You twist on throttle a little bit and the bike changes to the right gear all the time, every time. For someone with a little less strength, this means no concern about the bike stalling and having to recover using their body weight. The DCT on this bike (which, according to Jeff, is a new generation of DCT for Honda and only available on the Wing) shifts faster and smoother than (I'll say "nearly") any human can shift. It has a 'manual' mode along with the sport and whatever other modes you can choose.

Why Jeff liked the standard Wing? We didn't get into this much, but he said the bike just felt better. He supposed that top case with built-in back rest adds a little weight; not much, but not in a good place - high and over the rear suspension. He didn't say the Touring edition was bad at all and certainly it would be better for 2-up riding, but that the standard set up seemed to handle better and be more responsive.

Looks like the Goldwing is about 30lbs lighter than the GW Tour. Not much, but then again, that top case could have another 30lbs or more inside it.

Thanks EmptySea and Ferret. I'd be interested to ride a DCT bike sometime. Certainly the automatic transmission in many cars has improved remarkably in recent years.

The Interceptor caught my eye the first time I saw videos of it. It reminds me of my BSA Lightnings. It has that beautiful 1960s British twin sound to it, and weights 100 pounds less that the CB1100 EX.

So MTC, Honda is claiming the new GW is about 90 lbs lighter than the outgoing model. Are they talking about the standard GW or the Tour?

The DCT has a "D" and "N" rocker switch at the right thumb. You punch it into "D" after you start the bike and want to take off. It also has a parking brake, which is actuated by a ratcheting lever located on the LHS fairing, about knee level. It's pretty cool. If I were to buy the bike, DCT would be my preference. Not unlike buying an automatic Accord vs. a stick. Just put it into "D" and go.

Ride more. Worry less. Tongue

Per Honda’s website: 2017 GW is 933lbs. 2018 GW with DCT is 800lbs. 2018 Touring with DCT is 847lbs.

The 2017 can be as light as 900lbs. The 2018s without DCT are about 15lbs lighter than those with DCT. I’m sure there’s some combination of old and new that adds to a 90lb difference.

I only live a few miles from Rosemont, so getting to the show was comparatively easy. Sorry you missed it.

As a matter of fact, I did "happen to see" the new Enfield Interceptor. I just didn't realize that I had until Nortoon pointed it out to me earlier in this thread. I was too busy getting "artsy" with my photo to even realize what I was looking at. LOL
