I checked under my fenders and was surprised by the amount of rust in cracks/crevasses… So they came off, got cleaned, blasted with rust converter and then the undersides painted with silver engine paint. I'll keep an eye on it but I figured paint was a bit more protection than none at all…

İmage

In honor of our UK member Smiler and his bimbles for a brekkie, , I fixed a thermos of tea, grabbed a banana and rode my CB 1100 up to the local state park and sat there at the lake watching the sun come up, eating my banana and drinking a couple cups of hot tea. Mmmm. Great morning.

Thanks for the inspiration Smiler. It was fun. I have pics but my computer monitor is out and I can't download them lol.

Maybe rust inhibitor, some primer and a Rhino coat.

Again sad quality to see. But it will out last me as I am 58, but for the young guys in their 20's or my son this is a disappointment when compared to my 1970 CB750, but then it is wiped with oil and in storage waiting for me to get it and have time. Like a fine wine I figure it keeps improving with age.

My neighbor has an older Kawasaki cruiser of some sort...probably a Vulcan. Anyway, I took a peek under those fenders, and no rust in sight. The bike must be at least 20 years old, but whatever black paint or coating Kawasaki used seems to work pretty well.

Well, it wasn't today. But, the second weekend of this month I rode my CB. - 1100 miles (how weird is that?) to NC and back. There's a BMW Rally there I've been to 14 times. Had a great run except for the rain storm I rode through the last 60 miles. My Honda and I rode up to the top of Grandfather Mountain - what a beautiful day and view that was. The CB1100 has proven to be fine rally / touring machine with the proper mods.

Changed the rear brake pads today. Boring yet necessary! 12000 k service coming up this month, which I will attempt, including the valve clearance check. İmage. Old pads were well worn İmage

Took Last Blast for a thirty minute local burn. Two objectives, firstly to check out the effectiveness of my PAIR valve modification and secondly to warm the oil for an oil change, part of a somewhat delayed 30000kms service.

The PAIR valve mod is effective and has cut down considerably, but not entirely, popping associated with the Staintune slip-on.

I did the service as specified in the owners manual plus the usual good look around. The rear brake pads are just about shot, with the cutouts gone. Will also need new tyres very soon. Am interested in the Michelin Road Pilot 3s, as recommended by CIP57. I suspect they will be a little more expensive than the current Bridgie BT45s I run.

On the subject of brake pads; sintered or standard is the choice offered by the local dealer. OK BRAKE GURUS, give me your opinions. Cost not a factor.

Wish I had a bike lift. I'm getting too long in the tooth to be scrambling around on concrete floors Smile.

G'day Aussie, in the time I took to post you beat me to the post reply button. What pads did you use? And how much and from where? I just called SCM for pricing and availability. About $39 for standard and $59 for sintered was the choice offered. Both in stock.
Cheers, mate.

Pour a beer, mate, then sit back and watch. Who knows, you might get a laugh.
