Dude, that's horrible, and I know from experience. The riding thing...I'm just glad you made it. Sorry, Ferret, glad you're on the mend.

I first noticed this post on "recent posts", the responses I saw gave the appearance that you had dropped your bike. Kidney stones are definitely a bummer, but I was glad upon reading your post that you didn't wreck. Silver lining in every cloud, relax and get better!

Cheers!

Sorry to hear this, I can relate. I had a LITHOTRIPSY as a precaution to some stones found on routine visit...next night I was in ER. Evidently my type of stone instead of turning into powder, just broke into pieces. I was sent home on dilaudid, talking to my wife a week later, I said I don't think I even took any of those....she said yes you did, you slept the whole weekend ;-)

RE: Rough ride and night last night.
They say 1 in 10 in the US will get kidney stones, so it's not suprising that many of you have suffered as well. I did not feel it pass, but everything is back to normal so I assume it has.

I have to admit I have never been a water drinker. A sip here or there. Never cared for water unless it was heated and had a tea bag, some sugar and milk in it. I don't even like to swim in it. I've always joked that the only thing water is good for is hot tea or a hot shower.

I will from now on try to drink more water. Maybe with some crystal light lemonade in it or something to give it some flavor, but plain water is just so hard to drink for me.

They tell me now, if I am on a motorcycle trip, I must carry the meds to deal with this if it comes up. Last year I drove my truck less than 1000 miles but my motorcycles over 25,000 so chances are if it's going to happen again, it will be when I am on a motorcycle

Funny, I was talking to my son last night and I said "I wonder what the pioneers did when they had to go thru this" and my son said "Shot themselves with their own gun" lol

RE: Rough ride and night last night.
I had one bout of them 25 years ago and luckily not a recurrence. I had my wife drive me to the E.R. (somewhat ironically, she's a lithotripsy nurse) I was in that extreme pain and I knew I was moaning, I just didn't know how loud I was until the E.R. Doc came over and asked if it was OK with me if they gave me something for the pain while waiting for my doctor. When they turned on the tap of the Demerol Visterol and Morphine cocktail all was good, and I thought I was floating 18 inches above the gurney and was trying to figure out how they did that!

3 days later I passed several stones into the cone shaped screen they give you to pee through. I was amazed how tiny they were. Mine were analyzed but were composed of so many different things the only advice the urologist could give was drink water or beer! Swear to God he was serious. Everyone asked me what I was going to do, and my reply was to "Keep that doctor forever."

I was the same as you, ferret, w/r/t water. I always recalled W.C. Field's stated opinion on it.

Ferret, I'm glad, you're are back in the saddle again. Thumbs Up

I can feel with you, as I had kidney stones and colic at the age of 13 (defect in the left kidney, which was solved luckily). No issues since that.

As a German I can tell you, if you don't like water, beer is also very good to fight kidney stones! Beer

However, that could interfere with riding... Cool
