Well, someone else on the forum suggested it and I decided to try it out. I ordered some Buell footpegs off of eBay and installed them on my CB. The ones I ordered were black rather than silver so it goes a little better with the Standard.
There's a fair amount of grinding necessary to get it to fit, plus additional grinding to allow it to sit normal (90 degrees to bike). The normal peg stop doesn't work, so it took some time to get everything squared away.
The new pegs sit 1.5 inches lower and slightly more to the rear than stock. There's plenty of travel in the shifter adjustment. You will need to cut that little U-bracket thing off the kick stand. I'm not sure what that was there for, but it's gone now.
The rear brake is a whole nuther story. I needed to pull the lever off and grind some to allow enough room for travel. Then the lock nut that you use to set adjustment has to be completely removed. With the lock nut on there, there's not enough travel to move the brake level far enough to match the foot peg. So I guess I'll need to periodically check to make sure things don't come undone.
Otherwise the new pegs really loosen up the rider triangle and relax the knees. I'm sure at some point they'll limit ground clearance on tight turns, but I generally never lean that far over. I'm still getting used to them, and if it doesn't work out I can always go back to stock. But I'm thinking it's a real comfort improvement so far.
Here's the delta in height. The original shows at 14" and the new at 12.5"
Here's a side shot showing set back
finally a shot showing the brake mod

Aschem - those look nice but are listed for $120. The Buell pegs were $54. I think the silver Buell pegs are even cheaper. It's probably better to spend the extra money but I got my cheapskate reputation to protect. Besides, where's the fun in buying a part that actually fits right the first time?
