BMW K1600 GT/GTL
If I can find room in my garage and bank account, this will be sitting right next to my CB1100 someday.

With it's 160 hp, I call it the:

1. Super car of the big touring motorcycles or
2. The Cadillac Escalade or maybe I should say Mercedes Benz, but the Escalade comes to mind when I think of smoothness and refinement.

The 1200RT is 120hp, but I didn't ride it, I figured go big or stay home ;-0

Also it's also worth mentioning (no connection, not a plug) but BMW Motorcycles of Louisville, KY will let you ride a new one hassle free, just give them your license, sign and away you go! I took a 20 mile loop around the city.

Speed got away from me a bit as my electric windshield disguised the speed a little:

As you can see, a little larger by 150 lbs, but almost twice the hp.

Talk about exhaust! There's the symmetry we all like! It sounded better than the CB even with my modified muffler. They do have accessory mufflers you can get for like 2K.

İmage

Actually I went to ride a GTL, but they only had this GT at the time....darn the luck ;-)

Yeah, I can see me riding one of these in the future!

Dang those are sweet, and what a sound. Bet that was a fun test ride.

My friend and riding partner, Glen, has the GTL. I have ridden it once. I probably will not do that again; not because I didn't like it, but rather because I liked it too much. It took all of 30 seconds to get used to the size of the bike and then it was like riding my CB, only with more--of everything good. I don't have room in my budget or garage for this fine machine and so I must never ride it again, lest I do something stupid. I met a girl like this once back when Cheryl and I were just barely dating.

How about the BMW of motorcycles?

Yes, all BMW dealers have demo bikes available for test rides. And then they sell them at the end of the year, fully serviced, with the balance of the 3-year warranty, and with BMW financing if needed, all at a nice discount over a new one.

Ride more. Worry less. Tongue

Sweet. That is a screaming fast big bike. Carl Reese set the US transcontinental motorcycle record on one in 2016.

This may be urban legend but I heard that BMW expects the dealers to get the demo bikes to 5,000 miles and then gives the bikes to the dealer to sell for whatever they can get for them. So the dealers have a strong incentive to maximize the number of demo rides they give.

Wow...that's cool to know! I knew it smooth at high speed, but didn't know it was a record setter. 90 mph felt the same as 60 mph, with plenty of acceleration still left.

There are no ST1300's still being made, so this may just be the replacement for me!

They did say the GT has a seat height of 31 inches and the GTL's are 28 inches for those interested.

Everyone has different tastes and riding needs and habits, but don't count out the 1200RT as being less of a bike. It may be all you need and the handling is superb.

Too much cover-up, great for touring though.
