This CB400f is so cool. Low mileage original. Not only is it made the year I was born, it has a serial # of 0000007. However my limited mechanical skill, and desire to ride long distances all the time, and how scouring for rare parts isn't my thing I think the Dream is probably better than the reality with this one for me personally.

Oh man I had 2 1975 CB400Fs before I took a 24 year break to have kids. Paid less than $1k back then for the 2nd one. Love the bike and it's one of the reasons I love the look of the CB1100.

Nice find, and right under my nose. Thumbs Up

The dash sure has a familiar look.

With good tires that should be a great bike to ride. There is a popular saying in the CB500 Forums, "A small bike ridden fast is more fun than a large bike ridden slow."

I had a '76 CB400F in the early '80's and put a lot of miles on it. Trust me, compared to today's bikes, with their compliant suspensions, strong brakes, radial tires and powerful-for-their-displacement engines, I think you'd tolerate the CB400F for local Sunday afternoon rides and not much more. It was a great bike in its day, and I agree, those swoopy headers are sexy, but today, it's really just a heavy (for its size), slow, 40 year old bike with a cult following.

Ride more. Worry less. Tongue

LongRanger you're right, I don't think it'd get much use with the CB1100 in the garage. Maybe the odd putt about town, if I was in a financial position to have a collection of bikes maybe I'd put it in the garage, but currently I can only afford to maintain and insure one. Likeafox is the one near you in the same condition/mileage? Can you post a link?

My CB1100 (and a couple years with a 73 CB350F) have removed most of my rose coloured glasses. Holy moly do we have it good today (except for the texters).

The reason why I didn't buy that prisitine low miles 76 wing a about 18 months ago. Done with old bikes. I regret that decision sometimes though.

That is why I have my ZRX1200 up for sale- and the only true 'old' fault it has is carbs.

It is a beautiful bike- with an extremely powerful motor, he** of a deep exhaust bark..and outperforms the CB in every way...I just want to turn the key and go..and I like my fuel injection as well as heated grips, gear indicator...

The carbs are off the ZRX currently as they gummed up from sitting too long or sucking some odd bit in a small hole somewhere...and I am just giving up instead of paying money to send them off for a rebuild. I could fix it.. but would I ride it once done? I don't know.. I like to just sit back and relax now. The ZRX is fun.. but in a way that tends to make me push my luck- and I don't need the troubles that come with that at this stage of life.

104whp / 75wtq ... for now.

RE: If I had $7000 to do nothing with...
I'm kinda afraid it's a no brainer for me. I'm a rider not a wrencher. If I had a bike that needed work and if I had the knowledge and skill to do it, I'd head out to the garage tub the intention of doing it and find the sun was shining. If the bike were rideable or I had another one, it would be game over and I'd be off for a ride.

One CB1100 in running order is perfect.
