RE: New Helmet Help
If Shoei fits your noggin, then I'd look at the rf1200 or the GT-Air. I like my X-Fourteen, but I ride without a windshield so the aerodynamics of it was the draw. The RF1200 is quieter than the X-fourteen or the GT-Air. The GT-Air has the cool drop-down sun visor, but I found that it didn't drop down far enough so I was distracted by the light coming in from under it. I don't like modular helmets, but that's just my personal paranoia that the chin guard won't keep me pretty in a crash--probably irrational, I know, but it's one less thing to worry about for me.

RE: New Helmet Help
EmptySea, that is a rational fear. All modular helmets trade better convenience for less protection. They are better than an open face, but not as good as a full face helmet.

I personally prefer them because I have big ears and wear glasses. But I wear it knowing there is a little more risk. I also like being able to open it when off the bike or stopped at a red light on a hot day.

RE: New Helmet Help
It's funny. I wear a modular a lot. But I also wear full faces and 3/4. Just depends on my mood. (will occasionally wear an open face as well, but that's pretty rare) but when I am wearing one of my full face helmets and stop someplace, I involuntarily grab the chin piece and try and raise it, thinking it's a modular.
