Lucas light help
I need to swap the aftermarket tail light on my cb1100 as it won't clear my sporttail..

I went with the Lucas as it had the right measurements... however the Lucas light has 2 wire red and black but the cb had 3; black/brown strip, green/yellow stripe, and green..

As I have a 2014 I believe from what I read the red lucas lite wire connects to bikes black/brown tail lite harness wire for tail/running lite. black lucas lite wire connects to bikes green/yellow stripe tail lite harness wire for stop lite.. supposedly the lucas lite grounds through mounting bolts to the rear fender to the frame.

My issue is that my rear fender is plastic... can I still use the light and what do I do with the green wire.. Do I wire it to a metal part of the frame??

Help

Thanks in advance

Jason

RE: Lucas light help
C,

The kinda kinda helps.. I did a search and found it.. the problem is that with the Photobucket swap I can't see the photos, so I dont know what what fender is being used. My bike has black plastic fenders, the Lucas has the right holes under the light to mount no problem, I'm not using the top mount.
Even if I did I'd have to drill the plastic fender, so no matter what, the Lucas light wouldn't touch the frame.

I wonder if the metal mounting bracket is enough to ground it..

My plan is to use the two wires (listed above) and ground the green wire to a frame bolt.. it should work, if the metal bracket on the light is sufficient for grounding the light, but dunno

Lucas light help
Really need popgun on this one. I'd have thought that, unless one of the wires on the Lucas fitting is a ground, you might have to run a separate wire from the bolt to the frame. But I wouldn't really know.

Lucas Light...................CB1100
Red (brake light)...........Green/yellow
Black (running light)......Black/brown

As you mentioned; the attachment points on the Lucas housing is the ground.
You could connect the Green, CB1100 wire to the Lucas housing.

RE: Lucas light help
Well that was fun

NOT

Ok on the 2013 is black/brown wire on the cb to black Lucas wire and blue/green wire on the cb to the red Lucas wire.

The Lucas metal mount was not enough to ground the light - nada no tailight

However, if you add an wire and take it from the green wire to the Lucas light, I get tail lights :-)

The rub is that it can't just be touching the mounting bracket.. it only works if you are touching the metal bolts on the Lucas light.. the bolts that hold the plastic light in work, but are exposed too much .. howver as I used stainless bolts to mount the Lucas, those work too.. So it's another run to Home Depot to get a round electrical connector, which I will sandwich between some metal washers with rubber ones on the outside.

Weeeeeeeeeee

Thanks - I figured out the wires just as this came in

I appreciate the assist

The green ground from the cb must be routed to the Lucas light, but it has to be to metal i.e. A bolt, the frame of the Lucas light isn't enough...

I'll post up pics when I am done
