It is not hacked into your wiring though. It plugs into the DTC (diagnostic connector) which is behind the left side cover.
Great feedback, thank you! I did notice that it plugged into the DTC when tracing all of the wiring back. One of the things that I am not too keen on it is when slipping the clutch it seems to confuse it a lot. I've never had the desire to know which number gear I am in so this device seems novelty to me. I'm going to give it some more time before I make a final decision though.
It actually works well, but doesn't indicate the gear until the clutch is let out. You probably noticed that, so I can see the clutch slipping thing. And that is only negative I've found. OTOH, if it is displaying incorrect gears then it needs re-calibrating. It isn't hard to do and you can do it with the bike on the center stand. I don't remember how, but the procedure should be on their website. Or I can dig mine out if necessary.
