How close can you go?
Here is my new game I play when riding with no place in particular to go.

This was my day on the 1100 while every one else boated....great ride..."my goal was to stay as close to the water as possible without hitting dirt or gravel roads"...only got gravel twice ;-).....But even then they were short valuable short cuts only a few hundred feet long that put me back on the path I wanted.

İmage

Google is so amazing....I love it I just hope they don't take over the world ;-)

I downloaded the Google Map of the area (20mb) to my Offline maps because I knew I would lose cell phone service, but with the downloaded map and GPS, I could still navigate using Google.

I just used the "my current location" button and I showed up as a little blue dot with a "headlight" on it showing my current direction.

I could zoom in or out while riding whether I needed more precision or not.

As long as I was heading in the general direction without hitting a dead end I was OK, but Google Maps were so precise they even showed all the roads in State Parks, Marinas, Camping Areas!

Note to self: order touch screen gloves as I sun burned my hands keeping my gloves off to work the screen.

I spent most of the day under 40 mph and about half under 20 mph....it was a nice pleasant day!

The road in the "Land Between the Lakes" was exceptional!

I can recommend the restaurant at Eddy Creek.

We ate their twice....I forgot to take pictures....but every sandwich was giant!

RE: How close can you go?
offroad, this is excellent! Man...this is the kind of riding that I really like to do. What I mean by that is, come up with an idea or a theme for the ride and hang with it. Riding close to water is a really good one and something that I've done myself. The closest major body of water to me is the Licking River. It is actually a PITA to navigate around when you want to be on the other side, but I have done the challenge of riding along the east and west side trying to stay within sight of it. Sometimes that involves dead-end detours but I'm game for that.

This type of riding puts me in the state of mind of an 11-year-old boy set loose on a summer day with no supervision. Where am I going? Wherever. What am I doing? Nothing, or whatever.

By the way, some pics from my ride up 49 and 453 through the Land Between the Lakes in 2015.

Great idea for a ride. I like your pictures, Stich, particularly the sense of movement conveyed in the second one.

Thanks, Corm. Pics are from my old GoPro, hung out on a suction cup to the faring, and set to snap a still picture every 30 seconds.

I used to like to do that riding but on the GL1800c I always fear getting stuck in turning around. Even on my Nighthawk 750 I once or twice had a devil of a time reversing when I had gone downhill to a dead end. And hitting gravel and having the bike start to tip over is another thing I worry about.

I live right on the Atlantic coast which has many winding coastal roads that follow the rugged coastline so I'm almost always right alongside water.

Still rockin', rollin', and ridin' after all these years

That's a big reason I reach for my 250 when I want to explore some one-laners. Very easy to maneuver and turn around in tight quarters.

Stichill that 250 looks awesome for back road riding!

That was some concern, I thought several times, I'm glad I'm on the CB instead of the touring BMW1600 I have my eyes set on!

Most areas seem to be groomed for boat trailer traffic, smooth roads, looping accesses. That helped a lot!
