T100...T120...or nothing?

Awright fellers...I got that bug again...Thinking of a Triumph. My first priority...I like a refined, very well built bike (which is a big part of the reason I love my CB1100) and in my view the only other bike out there that fits this criteria is the Triumph. That said, if I take the plunge, which model should I buy and why...Were talkin T100 OR T120 here. Thanks in advance for your input as I will certainly consider your opinions and experience. ***As an aside, I'm psyched about the Kawi Z900RS...but afraid it won't live up from a refinement perspective...I went and sat on a Z900 (sport bike version) recently it felt like it was made out of cheap sh*@&#^T plastic pieces. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Would kind of depend on your budget. $2400 more for the T120 gives you 80 hp instead of 55hp for the T100, if that is important to you.

Either way, I think Triumph makes pretty sophisticated and reliable bikes. I had a 2012 Tiger 800 XC that I rode for 27,000 miles before trading on a 2015 Tiger 800 XRx that has about 20,000 miles at the moment. No trouble with either one. I traded for the street version XRx because virtually all my miles on the XC were on pavement plus the XRx has traction control, ride by wire, rider modes, cruise control and even self canceling turn signals. I added heated grips and TPMS. Both had ABS.

Service is kind of pricey, although very thorough. I figured at least 10 cents per mile. Might want to check into those costs.

I found the Bonneville to be kind of cramped and it seemed I couldn't put my feet down without the pegs getting in the way. I preferred the Thruxton with the rear set pegs and was about to buy an Ace Cafe edition in 2015 when the Honda dealer offered me the CB1100 ABS for $3000 off MSRP.

If you’re going to keep the bike for a while, the price delta of the T120 over the 100 is well worth it. Much more grunt, roomier, better brakes and suspension. It’s a really special motorbike.

I’ve ridden most of the Bonnie variants now, and own a Thruxton R to compliment the CB, and if I was in the market for yet another modern retro, the T120 would be near the top of the list.

The T120 would be on my list too.
I would probably have one now, but I already have a T100 and made mods to improve it so I wouldn't be gaining a whole lot by trading up.
But that doesn't mean that I haven't thought hard about doing it

Air cooled with carbs. 2008 or earlier T-100. Fantastic machine. Dead reliable. Many MANY aftermarket vendors to make it your own for just a little more scratch. You could probably get one and mod it however you want and be all in for $5-6K and have a marvelous machine.

I picked up a 2016 T100 in August of this year at 'clearance' prices. Very nice bike, my second go round with Triumphs this century. I rate it so similar to the CB1100 that its hard to tell the difference.

Budget was a big factor for me, I sold my Ural sidecar rig and decided to replace it with a Triumph based rig. Already knew the sidecar I wanted so my only question was the mule - T100 or T120. For my specific purpose the T100 fit my bill. Classic look and decent sound. Power adequate for my needs. On the day I purchased the $ difference between the 2016 T100 and 2017 T120 was $3,200. Just couldn't justify it that particular day.
I'm around 5'10" with a 30" inseam, the T100 is as comfortable as any other bike I've owned on a 10 hour ride; knees ache and butt - well lets just say sore. On normal day trips it might get a SLIGHT edge in comfort.

I've ridden the T120 and like it a lot, would gladly own one. The handlebar position is perfect for me and the sound and power fun. If they had been available during the time frame I purchased my CB1100 I might have gone Triumph instead; if that had been the case I'd probably have just finished putting a sidecar on the CB!

I've been letting the local Triumph dealer service my other bikes (2 Hondas) because in my area they are price competitive and do good work without an attitude.

Ride them both and see what you think.

I like the looks of the Thruxton R, it reminds me of the café racer I built in the late 60s. But I was 22 year old and weighed 163 pounds then. I don't think my 71 year old, 225 pound frame would appreciate the riding position now.
