Did you use a pneumatic stapler ? , I have used them a lot and never had a problem except in iron wood . Use at least 100 lbs pressure.

I wondered about that myself. I was thinking of recovering my CB750 seat when I realized that I didn't own a stapler that was up to the task. My upholstery guy had an air driven stapler with very sharp staples. With the right tool, it was a piece of cake for him.
