Hello all,
New to the CB1100 forums, but spent a lot of days pouring through the SOHC/4 pages. First I would like to say thanks to all that do contribute to this group. I read a lot about the CB1100 over the past 6 months or so. Reading info about the 2013's to present and all the little differences between them. Ultimately, I went with the 2014 to take advantage of the six speed gearbox. Also, I was able to get I think the best price for new old stock this side of the Mississippi river, which left me no reason not to pull the trigger. From the moment I pulled out of the dealer on it, I could just tell something super special about this bike.
Is I noted in the title, new'ish. For the past five or six months i've been riding a 77' CB550F, and you know. wow, what a bike. I'm in my mid-forties and have just started riding this year. I chose the 550 for my first bike, as it just oozes cool to me. I am a kid of the 70's and 80's and I remember these bikes really caught my eye. I wasn't sure what my riding style would be when I got started, maybe a little on weekend or an occasional ride to work. Ha!!
I was hooked immediately. Riding 50 miles round trip to the office any sunny day, and soon gambling on can I beat the rain. My wife has also got her endorsement, and started riding as well. She likes to encourage me to work from home more, and ride to lunch or just pretend we are commuting in the morning and evening.
I have started to realize pretty quickly, that I am putting a lot of miles on this old 550. So the logical progression is to buy a brand new version of this classic beauty. My first ride on my new Cb1100 was a 80 mile highway trek at 80 mph, and I was amazed at just how smooth it was. I was a little nervous at first, but the weight and low center of balance just made my nerves melt away into a cheeky smile, and before I knew it I was kind of bummed out that I was home and the ride was over.
I have been riding my new ride as much as I possibly can and am now testing my boundary limits with riding in the cold. I have put my 77 up for sale and hoping to find new owner who want's to do good things with it. I got on the 77 yesterday and rode across to talk with a potential buyer, and thought to myself, Wow this bike is a blast, and it really is. They both are, and I really think that is a huge testament to these modern and classic CB's
I know I am rambling, but wanted to share my story and say hello.
