2018 model?
just curious if anyone here has inside information about if and when Honda North America will announce a 2018 CB1100ex coming to the US. I saw the video from the Tokyo show, and pictures of the pearl blue version they'll be getting in Germany. But here--nada. Wasn't news of the 2017 US model announced in Dec 2016?

Last I spoke to my Honda dealer, there will be a 2018 CB1100 in the US. However, he has been wrong before.

RE: 2018 model?
I’ve often wondered why Honda sent the EX rather than the RS to the US. I’d have thought it more appeal in that market.

Not much chance of either of them coming down under, methinks, although our laws about importing motor vehicles (including bikes) chang this year which will make it much easier for individuals to import a bike directly from, say, Japan.

When I spoke with my salesman on January 11, 2018 to place a deposit on a new 2017 model, I asked if there were going to be 2018 models. He said that he had nothing in writing from Honda to say that there would be any, but there was also nothing to rule it out.

RE: 2018 model?
My guess is that someone here will know about it before the dealers do--none of the dealers that I've spoken to were aware of the 2018 euro model EX or anything about the RS. Perhaps they are kept in the dark on purpose: if there are leftover 2017s that Honda wants sold--and sold near MSRP--it might be smart to keep everyone guessing as long as possible about whether a 2018 will make it here. Who would pay sticker price for last year's model when an identical but newer-model-year example is slated to arrive soon? Announcing the impending arrival of the RS might create the same self-competition within potential CB buyers. But that's assuming Honda and its dealers act rationally. Here in frigid NE, we didn't see actual arrival of the new EX until November and December.

If I recall, at least one iteration of the CB1100 was announced at the Chicago IMS. That's a few weeks away.

I should be at my dealer on Saturday for one of their winter seminars. I will ask around then.

RE: 2018 model?
Having worked as a motorcycle dealer for over a decade, I will echo what baxtercat said. We here on the CB forum will likely learn sooner than our local dealers whether there will be a 2018 CB1100 coming to U.S. shores. Reason being, we care a whole lot more than they do. Sure, there are those rare exceptions of dealers that are hardcore enthusiasts who scour the interwebs looking for news, the way many of us here do. Even among those types, however, the CB1100 is barely on their radar. This bike is not their bread and butter, nor is it very often their personal bike of choice. Most salespeople are younger guys who couldn't care less about the CB. As a result, we can almost guarantee that we will know more than our salesman will about this particular bike.

RE: 2018 model?
My Honda Dealer did not know there was new model of CB1100 for 2017. They were probably more concerned about selling the 2016 model in their showroom.

I showed them the picture of the EX on the Honda Canada website. Even then they were not sure it would come with dual mufflers.

When the bike did arrive in mid-May, they were amazed how much it had changed, and how good it looked.

I get the same reaction from strangers when I stop for breakfast or lunch. Although most think it is a restoration of a vintage CB.
