RE: 2017 Honda CB1100EX, still top speed / rev-limited?
the cb will be fine at speed if it wasn't nannied by the ecm.... i've ridden plenty of naked bikes (some vintage) well over 120+. somehow, i made it out alive. Big Grin
the ONLY 2 crashes i've had in 26 years was at low speeds on the same bike, my fault, used to hard a compound tire and had front end low sides. (both at 50mph and under) . Honda built a sweet platform.. its fine for speed. shoot, Ed Erlenbach did 143 on an aircooled rd250 setting a land speed record. no fairing., stock frame geometry, (aside from swing-arm) and a spoked front wheel. there's too much worrying going on here. go visit an ahrma race event near you. when you see what can be done reliably with dinosaur tech, you'll be a lot more comfortable with what your CB1100 can actually do. Hopefully i'll be at speed week in '19 teching for another team to see this for myself.

I think the 180 kph (112 mph) speed limiter is a Japanese thing. See this article. Why Honda didn't take it off for other markets is something only Honda can tell you.

The go to guy for removing it on the CB1100 is Don Guhl ( I don't work for or represent him) and there are reports to be found with the search function of the fun to be had on the CB1100s on which he's removed the speed limiter.

I have/had fast bikes. I've seen 150+. But the CB1100 puts a smile on my face at posted speed limit velocities, thank you very much.
If you want the CB1100 to go faster, then you don't really understand the CB1100.

Nice to have that option,I don't have a death wish but if i want to see triple digits,so be it. I will have the limiter removed at some point.

On a recent trip along a straight section of deserted highway, I found the speed limiter. The speedo showed 115 mph, and the GPS app on my phone said 113. I was tucked behind the Road Comet fairing as well as I could manage with the tank bag there. I have a rack and top box. I also had a T-bag on the seat behind me. The bike still felt planted. Not like my old V65, which got super light on the front end past 90. The CB1100 also felt like it had more to give. As DeSwami said back on page one: I'd rather speed be mechanically limited by gear/rpm than electronically limited by the ECU. That said, it was more fun to ride through the sweepers at 65.

In Europe we have a strickt emission standard, called "Euro 4" Angry that have to be met by all new motorcycles. The CB1100EX/RS would not meet it without the speed limiter cause of the air/oil cooled slant 4 engine.
The Dealers and the bike magazines mentioned this as the "problem" for
the limited speed.
May be that this CBs were intended to sell to the European market first?!

Some times I'd love to speed up over 180 km/h... . just for a peak time Wink

(sorry for my English. Not a nativ speaker Wink )
