HELP GAUGE REMOVAL /CUSTOM TACH
Hi,

we are completing this collision repair/ custom build and its looking so nice...

GOT ONE MAJOR ISSUE!!! BIKE DOESNT RUN WITHOUT STOCK GAUGES!

The only info we can really find is it has something to do with the communication line between the ECU and stock gauges.

THERE MUST BE A WAY TO MAKE IT WORK ? RESISTORS ? JUMPERS ?

can anyone help please?

I have attached the images of the bike and its so close to being finished up !!

What year bike? The ‘14 and up use a serial data communication line between the ECU and the gauges. Resistors and jumpers are not going to help with that.

I don’t know. On the diagrams it shows the rear wheel speed sensor and ABS modulator (if you have ABS) going to the combination meter (the gauges) then a bidirectional serial data line to/fm the ECM. And a separate TACHO line from the ECU to the meters.

Book says the ECM sends High oil temp indicator signal, Engine speed signal, MIL signal, and fuel pulse signal to the meters. The meter sends rear wheel speed senson signal to the ECM. All over the serial data line.

The 13’s work differently.

I don’t know why there is a TACHO line if engine speed data comes across the data line.

I’m not really going to be able to help you with customizing the electronics here. Other than whats in the service manual, we have no real data on operation.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it!

What if we swapped all the electronics from the 13? Does a 13 run with the stock gauges unplugged ????

Anyone know or can they try and see what happens ?

Thanks so much

I've a 2011 which I think is the same as the 2013. If it's easy to unplug the gauges—I'm a mechanical klutz—I'll try for you.

Could someone tell me how to do it?

Cormanus, you have to remove the headlight and unplug 3 connectors in the shell. If you want to do this, let me know and I’ll shoot you a pic from the service man that shows them.

The bike is not going to be right though. If nothing else the ECM will lose the speed sensor data. I didn’t look for anything else.

Cormanus,

On the way. If the resolution isn’t enough when you expand the pic, let me know. I sent it lower than full res (~561KB) Full res is 2.2Mb.
