Due to the profile of the chrome bar being so close to rear underside of seat unit - I can imagine it would be easy to scuff it up when you are wriggling the seat unit down into place ??
After the seat lock key is turned and held, the rear of the seat can be lifted at the back with your hand between the seat and the rail. After the rear of the seat is lifted above the rail, it can pulled back to remove it. If you were in a hurry or not paying attention, I am sure it would be your knuckles that would get scuffed up, not the chrome steel rail.
To attach the seat, the tongue at the front has to be properly inserted. But not pushed in all the way or the center tabs will not catch. With everything in place, a light punch on the rear of the seat will lock everything in place. A gentle tug at the front, middle and back will assure that everything is locked in properly.
Attaching the seat can be awkward if you hurry or are not paying attention. But I learned the Honda seat removal and replacement routine the three years I rode my CB500X. It was a little harder than the CB1100 EX because it was curved.
Neither seat would let me ride comfortably for more than 1 1/2 hours. But an inexpensive Coleman MadDog seat pad would extend that to 2 hours. That is about as long as I can ride without getting fatigued and clumsy in the corners. So my breakfast, rest stop, lunch, gas stop and coffee break are all planned to accommodate.
