You are the 2nd person to tell me that today-

I just received an email from the breeder that the parents are in heat and hopefully we should expect our new puppy around the end of July. Smile

ROFL

Anyway, this is what I ment with the "tapper on the dog's flank"

That picture makes it really easy for someone to understand why the frictional losses on a gearbox 'loosen up' as several thousands of miles occur. Also why initial oil changes are lower miles.

Kills me- my wife bought a new car and it's FIRST oil change is 10,000 miles, as are all subsequent.

Despite my internal conversation on this- her car, her money. I just know they don't want it to last forever.

104whp / 75wtq ... for now.

Kills me, also.
Doubt I'd go more than 3K for the first.

RE: Sometimes Ending Up Between Gears With Gear Indicator Line Blinking
Hi All,

I just wanted to update on the experience I've had shifting down to first after putting around 3500 miles on the bike.

The bike seems very persnickety when going from 2nd to first. The instructions given by some to shift with intent has worked but I really only get a nice-feeling shift when I focus during the deceleration and then only on the interval 14-12 mph. The quicker the deceleration, the quicker and more snappy the shift feels, but it has to be kept in that window.

Also, I noticed if I am in first gear already and mash down/hold the shifter to check and see if it is in first that the little dash/out of gear indicator starts to blink. It is somewhat unsettling to see but usually it stops blinking and returns to a solid "1" when I let up.

I think overall that the shifting could be a little better. It is not very smooth feeling at all. I really like the bike mostly but would improve on this and a few more things if it were up to me. My old 1981 CB750K did a few things better. There are a few things this bike does very well. I may make a couple of new posts just to keep things separate...

FYI, I changed the oil with Genuine Honda Oil & Filter around 430 miles then again at around 1,100 miles.

Is the position of the shift lever at a comfortable angle for you?
I needed to rotate mine a position on the spline.

You know... Perhaps not. Same with the brake pedal. I have not tried to adjust anything yet. I will do that in the near future then report back. Thanks for the idea.

I have a new CB 2017 EX and I do the same thing from time to time. I found that lifting my heal when down shifting solves the issue. You have to allow the shifter to reset after shifting. Releasing the cluch after getting the blinking error will allow it to work properly. You can move the shifter up a few but be careful you don’t make it to high or you will be touching during normal riding.

Just my experience with this bike.

I also have a 2017 EX and have the same thing happen. Often I am back into 1st gear after downshifting but I still have the blinking line. I have learned that as soon as I start to let the clutch lever out the "1" pops up on the screen. My guess is that whatever mechanism in the gearbox detects the gear for purposes of the indicator just needs a small bit of load on the gears or shaft for things to line up so it can read the gear I'm in, which would be first gear. It happens all the time on my 2017 when I stop in second gear and then shift through neutral into first. If I shift into neutral from second at a stop and then let the clutch out before pulling the clutch back in and shifting into first, it will not do this. It is not because I am between gears or because I have failed to shift deliberately. In my case it is just the way the gear indicator mechanism works.
