And then there were 3......
Well, today common sense and reality both showed their ugly faces (I really hate those guysAngry) and I sold my CRF450X thus drawing to an end my dirt bike riding days.

I had only returned to dirt bikes in 2012 after not having once since 1989 when my 1979 XL185 dropped its timing chain. Shortly after I joined the Army and couldn't afford two toys (in either time or money) so street biking won out. I knew I wouldn't have much time to ride them as my back injury I suffered in '08 was deteriorating so ride I did although we are taking trail riding here not hard core MX.

My surgeon told me my last back surgery is just that, my last. I'm out of options now and the next stop is a wheelchair. As crashes are inevitable when dirt riding, regardless of aggressiveness, I have to be smart and close the book on this chapter.

Just means less choices now on what toy to take out on a nice day.

There's freedom in that statement.

Wow, too bad. I feel really bad for people with back issues. Mine has gone out a couple of times, and each time it was a miserable experience.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I was in so pain much last fall before my surgery I told my surgeon that if he didn't operate (he was reluctant to do the 4 level spinal fusion on me because of my young age and the finality of it) I was going for a drive in the woods and not coming back.

Yea I had a friend with back troubles that made that drive to the woods. What a shame. Hope you are fixed this time W/R.

I certainly know what he was going through.

I won't know how successful the surgery was for another couple of months, just in time for the rally. The leg pain was gone instantaneously when I woke up post op. I'm still in pain but I can mostly control through medication and meditation. There are some real bad days still but rare so far.

Yes, same to you.

I missed the turn off to Monument Valley in '08 by the time I realized it I was to far past to go back as we had reservations for a show in Vegas. In hindsight I should have turned around and skipped the show.

Good luck and post pictures please.

I feel your pain, due to my first M/C crash 13 Apr 1963: Mainly a compression fracture of the 5th lumbar. Pain has subsided with age, thankfully.

I parted with my 2018 Yamaha XT250 last November, just before I turned 71.
Fun off road, but not ideal for long distances, although easy to pickup after dropping it (ask me how I know!). It was the dropping it (3 times on 2 trips), in remote areas, solo riding, that pushed the trade on the CB1100

Monument Valley is pretty cool. My wife and I rode there on our Bonneville in 2004 or 2005. We rented a tee pee for the night, right down the road from there, rather than riding back to town and getting a motel room since it was pretty warm out. Dumb mistake... Who knew a tee-pee without a fire inside would get so cold inside. We about froze to death lol
