RE: Trepidation
Wow Ferret that was one bummer of a crash that came with a large side order of physical and psychological reminders. It's a weird feeling riding through the site of a previous 'big one'. All i can say is that gets easier with every successive pass, ride through that intersection a dozen more times and you may not even think of the accident anymore. Someone, somewhere, once told me that us two wheel travelers are likely to have life changing incidents on the road about every 50 to 80 thousand kilometers. I guess that covers everything from a thought provoking near miss to a fatal collision. Probably just rubbish however anything that doesn't kill you should make you smarter. I can say that I have had a few of those moments in my time but I never pressed the trip meter to note how many miles between them. Anyways, for a bloke like you that heads out on the road when there is snow and ice I assume that those moments may occur more frequently for you.

WOW, what a stunning story!
It gave me the shivers just reading it and hearing of your injuries.
That's an intersection you will never forget and you can't be blamed for that.
But you're older and smarter now when you approach it or any other risky traffic situation. Rock on Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks for sharing that story, Ferret. Your reaction is entirely understandable, I think.

Glad you're still riding.

RE: Trepidation
Nortoon that's an incredible story.

I just had a lady turn left in front of me the other day, closest I've had in awhile. When I do the wiggle they don't move. This time I didn't do the wiggle, and wouldn't you know it she turns. I;m wearing a white helmet, a hi viz vest, riding a giant bike with dual headlights on, you'd think they could see you.

Sea...Cheryl will probably always feel that, even 50 years from now, even in her car.

Although left turners are certainly cause for concern, my biggest fear has always been someone coming across the centerline and taking me out.

I pray that she's not driving a car when she's 101 years old!

I share your fear about the center line crosser -- You can assume that the left turner is going to turn and be prepared for it, but you'd never be able to ride on a two-lane road if you assumed that every oncoming driver is going to cross into your line.

RE: Trepidation
I just hear so many of those centerline crosser stories.. on the news about every other night it seems. Somebody crosses the centerline, head-ons a vehicle and wipes out a whole family. Scary

And of course, they survive the wreck. Just like drunks, too. Poetic injustice.

RE: Trepidation
I can't tell you how many times I've encountered an oncoming vehicle with wheels over the center line crowding my lane in a blind curve.
It doesn't seem to matter if it's a right hand or left hand curve, people just don't know how to drive Angry Angry Angry
