I don't really like too much cold any more. I got me a really good BMW 2-piece setup from 2000, still in perfect condition, 3/4-length jacket with crap load of pockets and full Goretex liners for the zip-together pants.
You put in those Goretex liners and then add another layer or two (I like the Freeze-out stuff from Cycle Gear) it keeps you really warm to a pretty low temperature. I've got a little larger windshield on my F800GS, and heated grips. But if it got too much below freezing I'd need to hook up the old Widder vest.
As The ferret pointed out in another thread a while back, the whole thing of having to layer up, and the mobility issue, starts to impede the ability to ride so I don't really do that any more. That's snow machine weather.
