RE: PAIR Valve Mod
It's off-topic...but I just DO NOT GET this urge to put a louder exhaust on a bike!
And it hits close to home...one reason I sold my R1100RT was, the previous owner had put a loud pipe on it. Which was annoying even to me as I rode it. Not an open pipe, just quite a bit louder.
He'd also gotten a FI injection computer chip to go with it. Originals, muffler and chip, both lost. So...changing it back was gonna be expensive and arduous. I passed; sold it for a fair price.
But...here we have a tasteful, muted-sound ride...so many people want it LOUD. I'm just not following it...

RE: PAIR Valve Mod
I switched my exhaust because my stock exhaust got dented and I liked the look and the sound of the Yoshimura full exhaust. It's louder, but my wife is usually right behind me on her whisper-quiet CTX700 and says it's fine.
I see...or hear...Harley guys and some sport bike riders with loud pipes. Some of them are annoyingly loud and some sound kind of cool. I don't waste my time trying to understand their urges in either case, though. Life's too short for me to care what they do.

Your right ES, this mod would not be done to a stock exhaust, the only purpose is to stop popping and farting with a full exhaust minus the cat coming off throttle. Works like a charm.

RE: PAIR Valve Mod
The CB1100 makes the same noises with the stock exhaust. They are just muffled enough that you can barely detect them.
The Honda CB1100: STILL air-COOLed

Sound (hearing) is one of the 5 senses, I love having a growl to my inline 4, adds to the total experience of riding a motorcycle!

RE: PAIR Valve Mod
I did this mod yesterday after initialing doing it with a slightly shaved 5/16" rubber plug in the airbox, as outlined here: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1699
I prefer Joola's way (1.50 mm round headed bolt in the hose -- I used a button head bolt because I had one around, instead of a 1.50 mm cap screw), because I didn't trust the rubber plug to stay put inside the airbox. On Triumph's Bonneville platform, the air injection eliminator kits often come with a plug that fits OUTSIDE the airbox -- and it often pops off from that farting, snorting engine. I didn't want the plug popping off inside the airbox, then melting in the throttle bodies or something terrible. Also, it was a PITA to get my fingers into the PAIR valve hole in the airbox, and relatively easy to get my fingers under the front of the gas tank.
OTOH, it got me into the airbox to see that the PO had installed a very nice K&N air filter. I love buying a used bike with smart upgrades!

You said it. The motor runs noticeably cooler, smoother.

Late to the party but glad to be here. What a great mod! My bike sounds so much better without the popping.
