Reflective tape will reflect anytime artificial light hits it, day or night, but it is more evident obviously at night. The black tape included. In the pics above by the 45 parallel sign ( which is also EG reflective) there is engineer grade black reflective tape on the back of my ST, not visible with sunlight, but the picture above that which was also taken during daylight hours but using the flash on the camera ( same as headlights hitting it) you can see it is very reflective. The tape on my bike is 6 years old.

On another note... The new Federal Spec calls for High Intensity prismatic on all traffic signs which takes effect April 2015 if memory serves me.

When I bought the CB11, I could have gone with a matching helmet, but when I saw the Hi Viz yellow ones, I couldn't really justify cool over visibility.

Within the next few weeks, I found out how visible. People at stop lights were telling me that they saw my helmet long before they saw me. To which I'd reply, "That's the idea!".

I'm planning to add some of that magic reflective tape to the helmet and the bike.

+1 for the hi viz helmets!

Is there any experience as to whether the (more flexible) prismatic tape
- stays flat on a helmet long-term, or whether bubbles form after the helmet has been heat cycled by sun and rain ?
- how easy it is to get it off after years (e.g. in order to replace it) ?
- whether slightly heating the tape or the helmet during application is recommended when the surface is curved ?

Good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgement.
