RE: New guy suffering from analysis paralysis
The motorcycle bus is a tough one. In most states the weather does not allow it to be a good year round business. The employees are usually youngish motorcycle enthusiasts who due to long hours, low pay, and no benefits, with all their buds out riding while they are working, quickly lose their enthusiasm. Most don't even ride motorcycles to work. Then they get laid off in the winter. Plus dealers have a ton of models which they need to know something about, while due to the internet and forums like this, the customers will often know everything about the specific model they are interested in. Then when you pose specific questions about a certain model he cant answer he looks stupid. It really is a no win situation for them. I spent 17 years doing it, and it nearly ruined motorcycles for me..at the end of the day, I loved my motorcycle, but I certainly was not fond of motorcycle people. I certainly didn 't want to be around them when I was off. Probably the reason I still prefer riding alone. They beat you down on price until you are making nothing, then demand to be treated like they are the most important person in the world, especially if they have an issue with their bikes. Dealers are humans, just like we are, they have their strengths and weaknesses, just like we do, and they are trying to make it thru life day by day, just like we are. Some are really lousy at their jobs, but most at least try. They are just overwhelmed.

Thanks for the insight into the motorcycle business. I get it. The customer service industry is almost completely thankless. Good motivated people almost never want to do that kind of work.
I guess my point was that out of all of the dealerships iI've been to since I started shopping last year, which is in the range of 20, it's only been the Honda dealers that I've had an issue with. Even the harley dealers have been pleasant.
But like I said, I only need the dealer for the sale. After that, my expectations are pretty low.

These were the very criteria I used when buying my CB1100 last June. Well, they're what I used on the logical side of my brain to evaluate the purchase. Truthfully, this logical process went on after I saw, sat on and fell in love with the beauty of the bike.
After almost 10,000 miles, I think it is this very combination of the logical and aesthetic merits of the bike that make me so happy with it.
Good luck in your shopping and glad to have you here.

Just picked up a 2013 non-abs with 50 miles on the clock for $200 over MSRP OTD. Now I get to wait for the snow to melt...

Good on you, mate. Hope the snow melts quickly and you can get out there and tell us about it.
