Mine was delivered over filled also. Do not understand the need for the screw type wiper. Simply another place for a leak to start.

Sight glass gets coated with scum. Agree though, just one more thing to worry about.

However that is one thing we have never had a complaint about so Honda musta done it right.

The sight glass has a wiper, so the scum should just wipe away Smile

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the above closely enough Sad

Unfortunately, these are the type problems that don't appear for at least a few years. Can't ever recall having a sight glass that I could not read the oil level through.

Quite. I have noticed my glass getting rather dirty and needing a swipe in order to read the oil level accurately, so they must have seen the need for it.

Thankfully this would be easy to repair if a problem arose, just pull off the clutch cover and replace it.

I feel pretty good about my bike thus far, no weird noises, runs perfectly, rides like it should.Thumbs Up

Every new bike I've bought in recent years has been overfilled. I like to keep mine to the upper line (especially as oil also cools this engine) but not over. My bike does consume a bit of oil but very little and seems to be improving with mileage. Only have 3K miles so far but a lot of high-rpm riding.

Service manual favors 10W-30 oil
At my 600 mile service the dealer replaced with 10w30. At the next scheduled oil change, I'll do it myself and I am planning on using 10w40 synthetic.

I had one. When I was young and stupid, I fell for some trendy marketing about motor oil with a graphite additive. The sight glass on my Kaw 750 turned black and I never saw oil through it again. Angry

The sight glass on my recently sold 34 year old Yamaha XS850 was still clear to where you could see the oil level! It didn't even have a wiper thing like our bikes have...

Thank goodness no graphite oil stuff in that bike!
