Well I tried it without the translated instructions and failed. Using the translated instructions, it was really easy. Just read them once and you will have no problem.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it!

Aren't there a couple types of keys? What did we get here in the states? I eventually am going to order a top case and rack, but I want to make sure I get the correct lock cylinder when I do so.

Randy, I don't know whether there are different kinds of key shank for the bike. The Australian model—and, I think, the ones imported to the UK—have the HISS system which must mean there's some sort of proximity reader in the head of the key. I suspect that's the only difference. But don't hold me to it.

There are two types of keys. Type A and Type B

Cormanus, I have the pics of the types. They show how to determine your key type. Maybe you could add those. I'll send them if you want.

Randy, if you need them sooner, PM me your email address and I'll send them to you this evening, or you can hack around on the Webike site and find them. They are kind of hard to find though.

Isn't there a thread here with the key types and pics on how to determine which key type you have? I remember adding to that thread last year... I will see if I can find it.

I think I found it, this thread talks and shows the difference between type a and b. Read through the posts and you will see the pictures and how to figure out your key.

As far as what type in the US, my key is a type A key.

dbuster,

I knew there was a thread, but didn't feel like searching, and figured they need to be here anyway.

No problem. They are here and now the two threads are linked for further benefits to those that search and find one or the other.

I am just glad the images are the same.

Plus it didn't take me long to search it out on my mobile device either.
