I dropped my phone on my tank and chipped the paint….a tiny chip but it pains me to no end. Next time not only will I pull over and stop…I'll get off the bike.

There is a lengthy thread here about applying clear vinyl film to protect the tank. I put 3M clear bra protection film on the top surface of my red 2013 tank and am getting ready to put Avery clear paint protection vinyl film on my new white tank.
There is a much easier and more precise way to trim the vinyl than messing with templates.
I first applied knifeless tape to the tank where I wanted to trim the vinyl. Cut the vinyl to overlap the trim tape and apply it. The knife less tape works with both wet and dry install. I think wet install is best for clear to avoid fingerprints and bubbles.
Today I pulled off the fenders to clean some rust that had developed. The front is delightfully easy to remove; the rear is a bit more work. I figured this might be a yearly task, so I cut the brake light's 3 wires, and installed a few quick-disconnects. This worked very nicely, and makes the rear fender removal much easier. Gave it a good cleaning too...as others have said, WD-40 works great for the wheels.
I was looking around for advice on some kind of under-fender protectant, and surprisingly didn't find too much. I thought for sure this would be a problem the Harley & metric cruiser guys commonly dealt with, but maybe not. I ended up just applying a couple heavy coats of Turtle Wax, so we'll see how that holds up. The bike does look quite different with them off!
