Looks cool.

I realize this was done for the sake of appearance and nostalgia, but an argument could be made that it represents a "belt and suspenders" approach to preserving the surface integrity of the upper forks and keeps 100% of dirt out of the fork seals.

Decided this is along the line of RLET's and going to order Kaw gaiters, they just belong on the bike, Very nice "how to" Ferret....this forum is super great, you/all took all the guess work out, glad I didn't cheap out, it is kinda expensive, but I know I'm buying right the first time.

Headbanger,, the Kaw boots though expensive are worth it. This pair has been on my Triumph (now my brothers Triumph) for 12 years and still look good.

İmage

Thanks very much for this, I just got done with the install on mine and am very pleased.

I know there was some Loctite on the caliper bolts and I believe the axle pinch bolts as well ( I broke an allen set trying to remove one of the pinch bolts for the axle bout never got that one off).

I torqued the bolts to the specs posted but wasn't sure if Loctite should have been used on any of these bolts I removed?

Thanks again for this awesome guide.

Good choice, Headbanger02.
"I", on the other hand, put the cheap British Customs gaiters on and after 6 months they were trash. Angry
Second time around I bought the Kawi gaiters and hope I don't have to take the forks off again for a very long time. Thumbs Up

Hi Ferret -
I just completed installation of those Kawi fork boots as per your excellent guide. They look fantastic and everything went perfectly, except when tightening the uppermost of the 3 ABS sensor mount bolts...I swear I was being very gentle but the top piece of the ABS sensor mount just broke right off when I snugged that top bolt. No huge catastrophe; for now I just cleared the broken piece out of the way, re-ran the ABS control wire outside the fork and zip-tied it in place. My question is, do you or does anyone else here know the part number for that ABS sensor mount/brace thingy? I don't have a shop manual and I struck out on an internet search... thanks, Karl

Oh man, thats not good. Must have been pot metal. Will try and find the part number for you. in the meantime if you have both pieces and they match up, try some JB weld. Good stuff.
