RE: Installing Fork Boots aka Gaiters
Is there a comparable quality gator that does not require the fork to be removed for installation? I assume it will be slit or something. I'm not worried about the slit because the existing fork can't be that bad or they would have put on gaitors in the first place. I just like the retro look - that will last.

RE: Installing Fork Boots aka Gaiters
There are gaiters that are split in the back and kind of snap together however I don't know of any member that has actually tried them.
This is one example

Thanks - That is exactly what I am looking for.
The only question (thanks to forum) is if they are as good / will last as long as the Kaws everyone raves about.
I think most items made prior to Y2K (or there about) that are still being made the same way (quality of material & workmanship) today will hold the test of time. However, I have noticed in my business, that even my "quality" suppliers/OEMs are no longer able to source quality material or products any more. We manufacture many of the simple components we used to be able to purchase.

RE: Installing Fork Boots aka Gaiters
Are they as good as the Kaw gaiters? Doubt anyone here will know. I have had a set of Kaw gaiters on my Bonneville for 12 years and they still look good. This forum and this bike has only been around for less than 3 years (except in Australia, NZ, and Japan) so unlikely anyone will have really been able to put them to the test. Bet someone on the Triumph forums would know though. We have has some guys buy some of the cheap gaiters and they have not had good luck with them, with them disintegrating within 6 months. (Tink and Joola come to mind). The Kaw gaiters are an oem part for the W650 Kawasaki's and are made of really durable rubber.

RE: Installing Fork Boots aka Gaiters
I haven't put gaiters on my CB yet, but I fitted a set of Triumph gaiters to my '06 Bonneville years ago and they still look like new.
I think you're better off and money ahead (along with time and fuss and bother) to fit a quality pair first as last and be done with it.
I'll be fitting Kawi gaiters over the winter following the very helpful tutorial by ferret.
However, the split gaiters are easier to install, remove and replace so you pays yer money and you takes yer chances
Still rockin', rollin', and ridin' after all these years

I remember seeing this once too. They used zip ties to secure them, I believe. It really isn't hard to take the wheel off though. took me maybe 45 minutes with these great detailed instructions.

RE: Installing Fork Boots aka Gaiters
Buffalo Bill in Ack's Whitehouse Project thread, reported in Aug 2013 that he made his own by splitting a pair and wrapping them around the tube, but they were not tongue in groove, or snap together gaiters. I believe he traded his bike in on an Indian with side car two months later, but I may be thinking of someone else on the hack thing. Anyway BB has not been on the forum since 10/2013
