First (and last) Service at dealer??
Does anybody get a free first service on their new Honda? The service guy told me 1000 miles the book says 600 miles. They gave me a coupon for $40 dollars off. Wow, how nice. It is like $130 for the first service. Geez, what do you think about that?

My new Yamaha had a free first service. I mean to check things out ought to be free the first time. The Yamaha had a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I don't get a free service on mine. Do get 10% off on access. for a short time.

I'll most likely do it myself anyway.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it!

The first service is an oil and filter change and a general inspection. I'll do mine myself, saving my receipts for filter and oil should I need them for a warranty issue.

Same here. I'm not a hugely mechanically-inclined guy, but I will do all my own oil/filter changes, and wheel removal/replacement (I have a buddy with a tire-changing machine).

I like the peace-of-mind of knowing that I torque'd fasteners, drain plugs, axle pinch bolts, etc., correctly.

My dealer offered $40 bucks off the first service, but I didn't take him up on it. Somehow, forking over $100+ for an oil change doesn't sit well with me. The dealer also wanted $20 for an oil filter. Fortunately, the filter is the same one used on my Nighthawk and I've got a big box of OEM filters that I bought in bulk for $7 apiece. That and a $21 gallon of Rotella T-6 and I was good to go.

The inspection part is pretty basic. I did the whole thing in about an hour.

Lest you think that I'm just a cheap bas**** (which is kinda true), I also don't trust other people to wrench on my bikes.
