"by the sea" part duex
Forum member Empty Sea had to make an unscheduled trip from Chicago down to Tennessee to attend the funeral of his friend. On his way through he ended up staying in Cinti and wondered if I could meet him for breakfast and maybe tell him a fun way thru northern Kentucky. Plans were made to meet at 8 AM over near his hotel near I-75.

Here's Matt arriving at the meeting spot this morning.

İmage

Over breakfast I gave him a map with a route highlighted I thought would be a lot of fun since he likes the curves. He said it looked good to him.

İmage

OK what the heck, I'm retired... I'll lead. First order of business was to get through downtown Cinti and Florence Kentucky. Glad we were headed south and not North this morning.

İmage

Anyhow at a rest area just south of Florence I pulled in and gave Matt the opportunity to ride my 14 Deluxe with the 6 speed

İmage

Now we don't have intercoms, were wearing full face helmets, and traveling about 75 miles an hour but I'm pretty sure I saw him mouth the word 'WOW". I could tell he was impressed. He must have wanted to tell me something because he kept blowing the horn. At the next stop for gas we switched back. I swear I saw a tear roll down his cheek having to give back the DLX.

We hit our exit and spent the next 1 1/2 hours going left, right, left, right, left, right...repeatedly... a lot. Pictures aren't so good because it's hard to do switchbacks with one hand and take pics with the other

İmage

İmage

When we got through Stamping Ground and down to Georgetown, Kentucky we took a break, parked our bikes under a shade tree and Matt had a big ol unsweetened iced tea and I had a thermos of hot tea. Mmmmmmm

İmage

İmage

This is where we would split up. From here Matt would head south headed for Alcoa, Tenn and I would head north back to home

Great morning of riding ... 227 miles for me today... imagine it will be a few more for EmptySea

Nice riding with you again Matt. Ride safe, and sorry about your friend!

Your a great guy Mickey, I'll be calling you if I ever go through Ohio.

3600rpm's at 75mph is pretty sweet. The 5 speeds are 4000 at 70 .

Edit: I hope Matt likes those Michelin'sThumbs Up

C'mon down..plenty of good roads round here

6 th is really nice for freeway work. For me have to be going faster than 60 to use it though.

Mickey is a great guy and we had a great morning. The DLX is super smooth.

The Road Pilots managed to get me up and down a damp Tail of the Dragon in one piece, so I'd say they are doing what they are supposed to do. Smile

More on my weekend ride in a separate report. Thanks, Mickey for today and for the great report and photos...now fix that horn button. Wink

Lol when riding it, EmptySea kept trying to cancel the turn signal on my 14 and kept blowing the horn. It's a real pain for those used to the switches reversed. Can't for the life of me figure out why after all these years Honda made the switches different. Maybe they blow the horn more than use the turn signals in Japan?
