Thanks

I had spent several hours searching for a 19 tooth sprocket for the CB1100 and was ready to adapt a 19 from a Triumph Trophy 1200 that uses the same spline. Never heard of PBI sprockets. It is on order now.

I haven't decided weather to drop the rear sprocket 1 tooth or not. I'll probably wait until after a new rear tire is needed and go for something taller and not radial then go from there.

Will be interested to hear how your special order steel sprocket works out.

Thanks AgainBig Grin

Why would you ditch the radial tire?

I've had radials on other bikes and was much happier after replacing them. I guess it's just me. I would rather have stiffer tires and softer suspension.

Speaking of suspension, the rear shocks have been replaced with ones off of a 1200XL Harley. They are softer and they dropped the rear about 1 inch. Had to replace the rubber bushings with stock Honda ones (CB1100), but they work,,,,and they were free.Smile

I can tell you that these tires are not what I would call soft. I had a front tire blowout (hit a piece of cracked off roadway concrete) at 75-80 mph in a left hand sweeper on the freeway and never lost a beat. The steering got a little heavy on me, but nothing to indicate that the front tire was flat...COMPLETELY flat. No wobble or shake of any kind, just heavy steering. I rode it for a little more than 20 miles like that, and the tire looked no worse for wear. I asked the guy that changed it for me if there was any indication of sidewall damage and there was none.

Needless to say I am sold on these tires.

I ordered one these from PBI and they ran out but mike there has been very helpful.
I sent him a link to this page and he sent me this back -

to me

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the link. I see that the 19 tooth sprocket has a clearance issue on the CB-1100, so on our next run we can crop the tip of the tooth by 0.060 inch. This is done on many sprockets and has no effect on wear or sprocket life. This should solve the fitment issue.

Also we are in production of steel rear sprockets, but we have not programed the rear sprocket for the 1100 Honda. If you see a need for steel and know the tooth sizes you need, we can look into starting production.

Hi Steve,
I think Mike at PBI missed the point. There is plenty of clearance of the sprocket tips to the guard. In fact, the sprocket easily clears the unmodified guard. But with the chain in place, the outermost surfaces of the chain rollers comes close to touching the unmodified guard. I said close - still not touching when rotated by hand, but when the chain is making a tight turn at several hundred feet per minute, I felt a little more clearance was a good precaution.

Peking,

Perhaps I'm not reading this right. Is the 2014 geared that much lower than the 2013?

2013 - 70 mph in 5th gear = 4000 rpm.
2014 - 70 mph in 5th gear = 3600 rpm.
2014 - 70 mph in 6th gear = 3200 rpm.

Is that right? I read that 5th gear on the 2013 and 2014 bikes was the same and that 6th gear on the '14 produced lower top gear RPM's. Mickey can you confirm the above approximate #'s? I'm going to do this countershaft mod on my '13. Thanks for posting this.
