My question is about confirming the much lower RPM at 70 mph in 5th gear on the '14 model. Perhaps one of our members can reconfirm the r's in 5th and 6th at 70 mph. Anyone??

Chip

Chip I can do it again tomorrow but think I already reported it somewhere on here. I think on my 2014 70 was maybe 3200 in 6th and 3700 in 5th.

Edit: found this in another thread

Just picked up a new CB1100 Deluxe. Here are some preliminary RPM data:
65mph/ 5th gear/ 3400RPM
65mph/ 6th gear/ 3000RPM

Congrats JetA,
After 200 miles, some on interstate, i confirm the 400 rpm difference between 5th and 6th.
I was turning about 3300 at 70 mph.
I find the gearbox very well suited for city use.
Enjoy your bike!

Thanks Mickey. The one mod I can't do is that wide ratio 6 speed transmission and I'd really like to have it. Now that I have my CB1100 just about exactly the way I want it I'm thinking about a black 2014 and starting all over again. Good grief.

the 6 speed is nicer than I thought it would be. Not needed but certainly nice to have along with the gear indicator and fuel computer.

No doubt if you get a black 14 std it will end up one of the trickest black 14 stds on the forum Thumbs Up

I tried to find pics on my album and I found them of 5th and 6th with tach readouts, only problem is they were all at 55 mph. The speed limit where I ride lol. To legally get to 70 I have to go to Kentucky.

if you are doing it just to avoid the vibrations, i put a 17 tooth front sprocket on earlier this summer and i believe that the "buzziness" in the grips is actually less while cruising and riding now. plus, it also feels less "jerky" at lower speeds--perhaps due to the motor running smoother at slightly higher revs. on top of that, it feels noticeably quicker from a roll up to 110 mph. Thumbs Up

CA200,

Thanks for the pictures. Did you grind down the "chain guard" to provide clearance or did the modified sprocket eliminate the clearance issue?

I'm going to install my new PBI sprocket this weekend.

I bought a extra "chain guard" just like Pekingduck did and I did try to grind off a little but I think there is a enough slop in the holes for it to fit right up. Try it and give the wheel a spin.

RE: 19 tooth countershaft sprocket installation on 2013
I'm going to do a bit of grinding myself. It never hurts to shave some weight from the already svelte 2013 model (compared to the porky 2014 Big Grin ).

Here is a side by side comparison of the 18T OEM sprocket and the physically larger 19T PBI sprocket.

İmage
