2015 CB 1100 Rally - Western NC
2015 Honda CB 1100 Forum Rally

Thursday through Sunday, May 28-31, 2015 based at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge 828-479-3864

http://ironhorsenc.com

A pretty good map of the area

İmage

This map will give members an idea of where the " major" attractions are in the area of the rally..

İmage

Green line ... 441 runs from Gatlinberg Tenn to Cherokee NC thru the Great Smoky Mtns Natl Park... 35 miles 1 hour

Blue Line ...Blue Ridge Parkway aka BRP runs from Cherokee NC to Front Royal Va .... 453 miles 7 1/4 hours

Orange Line... RT 129 "The Dragon" runs from intersection of 129 and 28 to a little past the Overlook .... 11 miles 30 mins

Pink Line... " Cherohala Skyway" RT 143 in N Carolina and Rt 165 in Tennessee. Runs from Robbinsville NC to Tellico Plains, Tn. (Bald River Falls is a nice side trip off the Skyway) 50 miles 1 1/2 hrs

I added a black star for the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge

* all distances and times are 1 way normal traffic

Most of our members will be centered around Robbinsville NC the central yellow circle

If you do those 4 roads they are the "must rides" if only in the area for a limited time. There are many other great roads in the area.

another thing to keep in mind...there isn't gas everywhere

There is gas in Robbinsville, Tellico Plains, Vonore, Fontana Village and Tapaco Lodge according to my trip notes

also Cherokee, Gatlinberg, and at mile markers 443.1, 455.7, 411.9 and 393.6 (plus more further north) on the BRP

How to pack for weather?

Climate Robbinsville - North Carolina

Average high in °F: .... May 77 ..... June 83
Average low in °F: .... May 51 ..... June 59
Av. monthly precipitation in inches: May 5.28" June 5.24"

So.....

Figure 80 on ave for high
Figure 55 on ave for low
will be slightly cooler if you ride into the Smoky Mountains, BRP or Cherahola Skyway
and always plan for a little rain

Schedule of organized events:

Friday May 29: Ride the Dragon and Cherohala
ride led by The Ferret (Mickey)
dUH has agreed to ride sweep

Meet at the Iron Horse Parking lot at 9 AM.
Leave there at 9:30 AM and ride up 28 the back way to the Dragon Store.
Stop at Dragon store/ see tree of shame/buy your t shirt/decal or whatever.
Leave Dragon store at 10:30 AM ride the Dragon down to the overlook .
Stop at overlook for a few mins.
Drive back over the Dragon go down 129 past the dam to 143.
There is a gas station there. Fill up. (there is no gas on the Cherohala, next place to get gas is in Tellico Plains approx. 50 miles)
Run the Cherohala with a short stop at Bald River Falls.
Late lunch in Tellico Plains.
Ride the Cherohala back to 129 to the gas station.
Ride ends there.... go do what you want.
This is a full day of riding don't plan on getting back until dinner time.

(If someone misses us at the lodge they can catch us at the Dragon store @ 10:30 or the overlook @ around 11:00 or the gas station at 129 and 143 in Robbinsville @ around noon.)

Sat May 30: Group picture and group dinner

9 A.M. Meet at Iron Horse in Parking lot for group pic and meet and greet.

6 P.M. Meet at Iron Horse for dinner. (They serve dinner at 6:30 pm so I think meeting at 6 PM would be good, give us time to talk, get out of riding gear etc)

* With regards to Saturday Night Group Dinner. IF you are staying at the Iron Horse, it is not an issue at all. If you are staying somewhere else (San Ran, Two Wheel Inn etc), and want to eat at the Iron Horse with the group on Saturday night, you MUST call at least a few days prior, (they suggested by Tuesday the 26th of that week) and make your reservation for dinner on Saturday May 30th. Their phone number is 828-479-3864

**Saturday after meet and greet and group photo everyone is free to explore where they want, ride the Dragon again, or the Cherohala, or ride 28 down to the Bridal Veil Falls, or hit the park or BRP, or Foothills Parkway or whatever until meeting at the Iron Horse for dinner.

*** Saturday anyone that wants to follow me into the Great Smoky Mtns National Park to Newfound Gap and up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the high point is welcome to do so, but it is not a scheduled ride. I will be leaving the Iron Horse Inn around 10 A.M. unless otherwise announced

a map of Robbinsville with hotel, restaurants etc

İmage

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

RE: 2015 Rally - Any Interest?
I'm definitely interested. Budget and timing may prove difficult, but when I was there this year, the Minis In The Mountains rally was going on and those guys looked like they were having a great time. It would be cool to see a row of CBs winding their way across Cherohala. Smile

I would try to do it at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge - tent camping is very inexpensive there, and it is a very clean and nice place. So if you camp, budget should not be a problem!

I like camping, but I'm not set up for bike camping just yet. Looks like they have cabins, though, so that could be an option. Keep us posted. (btw, I'm a huge fan of Two Wheel Inn. Could be an option if they open the camping area they are supposedly working on. But, this is your gig, so whatever you come up with will be excellent, I'm sure) Smile

I am interested but do not camp, never done it and I like my comfort too much !, especially at my age.
It would be a great area for a rally.

I'd go barring some unforeseen catastrophe. I can be in the area in about 12 hours; rode there straight thru last summer, would do it again for this.

Go hagofuku yourself.
