Wall Street Journal review
The WSJ has a mini-compar-o in the 12/27 Off-Duty section that includes the CB1100 DLX. By my interpretation, I think it vaguely declares the CB as the winner, based on the "sweetest engine" and how cool the author thought he looked on it:

Of course, my judgment of the results is just a bit biased...

Funny...he describes the DLX, but the picture is distinctly a 2013.

I agree that you could name the CB as the winner. All the others had a negative in the review. Not the CB.

As an associate editor, and free lance writer, I can tell you the author of the article most likely only provided the words, a staff artist most likely provided the drawing after looking up images and redrawing them.

RE: Wall Street Journal review
Not every comparison article has identifying a winner as its objective. I took this article to be more of a nostalgia-fueled recognition of 70's style and aging riders and an effort by the various motorcycle mfgs to capture and capitalize on this growing sentiment for all things groovy. Each bike will appeal to different riders for different reasons. One of those reasons being the very subjective notion of "cool."

In other words...the CB wins!

If I could afford to own a second bike, the Ducati scrambler would be it.

It should come as no surprise in such cases that the staff artist is inclined to simply pick the image of the best looking CB1100 to go along with the article. Of course it's a picture of the red 2013 model. ROFL
