In order to have combined or linked abs, when you step on the rear pedal whether its hydraulic (or electronically activated) a middle piston from the front must be activated (hence the combined or linked) and brake fluid is the only medium that moves that piston. There is no middle piston on the front caliper of a Dlx, only a top and bottom piston.

If you look at a 13 with the linked ABS you will notice there are 3 pistons in the caliper. There is also a hydraulic hose going from left caliper to right caliper (behind the front fender I believe) to push fluid to that middle piston. On the 14 dlx, there are only 2 pistons and no extra hose

To check yours have someone sit on the rear of the seat with the bike on the centerstand and give the front wheel a good spin and step on the rear brake pedal and see if the front wheel stops turning. If it does you have combined or linked abs... If it doesn't, you don't.

I believe the dlx has separate ABS for each wheel.

Ferret is correct about the 2013 w/ABS having a linked or combined brakes. See the last post in this thread for a diagram.

In short, my 2013 has 3 piston calipers on the front brakes. When the front brake is applied, the 3 pistons on the left front caliper are engaged and the 2 outer pistons on the right front caliper are engaged. When the rear brake is applied, the rear caliper and the middle piston on the right front caliper are engaged. As ferret said, the right front caliper has 2 brake lines (one from the front brake reservoir and one from the rear reservoir. The right front caliper has two bleed valves. The upper valve is linked to the front brake reservoir and the lower valve is linked to the rear brake reservoir. I confirmed this when I bled the brakes a couple of months back.

Apparently, the 2014 Deluxe does not have this system.

This is off topic, but when I bled the rear bakes I noticed that my rear brake reservoir cap was only "2 finger tight". My rear brakes seemed to be better after I bled the brakes.

maybe it's just me, but I cringe seeing that tank bag on there. I can't help but think of the long term damage to finish on the paint (but of course, it's not their bike and it's not REALLY long term for them). I'd never have one of those 'direct on the tank' tank bags after a bad experience with one on another motorcycle (despite being so careful about it)..

A lesson I learned the hard way the day I picked up my "non-deluxe".

I assumed "FR" was referring to the 1100F & R models... but I'm just not certain.

Ferret's Ride, perhaps? Or, more likely, front rotor?
