Changing the headlight bulb
This was discussed in another thread and a how to was requested so here goes.

First thing is to locate and remove the two housing screws that hold the lens in.
İmageİmage

Next pivot the lens housing up until you can easily remove it from the bucket.
İmage

Do not try and pull it straight out because there is a tab at the top that needs to be disengaged before removal.
İmage

Now you need to squeeze the plug to disengage from the bulb. Do not yank as you can break the plug.
İmage

Now the housing will be free from the bike and you can see the rubber boot to keep out the moisture (note the "TOP" on it).
İmage

Next remove the boot.
İmage

Next push down on the right side of the clip and push up to disengage it from the latch.
İmage

Now you can remove the bulb from the lens.
İmage

If your old bulb is good DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS as this will put your finger oils on it and if the need arises that you need to reinstall it the life will be very short.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Just be careful when you remount the lens into the housing as the tab may fight you just a bit, and watch out for the harness as well so you don't pinch it when you close up.

RE: Changing the headlight bulb
Nice tutorial Randy. Wow there a lot less " birds nest" in that bucket than there used to be back in the 60s and 70s.

I believe you put a different bulb in there, did you not?

Which one did you use, and is it much brighter than the stock bulb?

RE: Changing the headlight bulb
Its a sylvania but honestly I'm not sure if its worth it. The first one blew alrwady (both high and low beams) and I had to pick up one while I was at work so I would have light on the ride home. This was the installation of the second one from the pack and I'll see how long it lasts.
And yes its brighter and I love that aspect of it, but at $42 a pair (amazon) I'm not sure about the cost/gain.
I'll let you know how long this one lasts.

RE: Changing the headlight bulb
So Randy, did the second one last,, or was the first one burning out a fluke?

RE: Changing the headlight bulb
The first one was transplanted from my Nighthaws, so it wasn't new when I installed it. this is is still going strong, and to be honest I think I'll order another pair. $42 for 2+ years of brighter bulbs is worth it to me. In the grand scheme of things it's not all that much money. I'll let you know when the second one dies.
