Cormanus,

No. I thought it popped up in the recent post section and just clicked on it. Maybe not.

Dr Dyno had my bike on the dyno machine up at Americade this weekend, and we were both surprised to discover the speed limiter. In gears 4-6, the limiter would kick in before the bike was making full power. For anyone interested, peak HP in 3rd gear was 89.85, with 66.92 ft/lbs.

12MilesOut resurrected the thread yesterday, which is why it's showing in the recent posts.

VStroms are able to go faster than the stock suspension, windscreen, and bodywork can handle. The fixes are easy enough, but more than one owner crashed or ruined ther riding pants finding that out.

Honda's explanation for the limiter is engine heat control. We're air cooled. That's also why we get an oil cooler.

From Wiki: "Most Japanese domestic market vehicles are limited to only 180 kilometres per hour (112 mph) or 190 kilometres per hour (118 mph)."

This is statutory and is why it is on our bikes. Doesn't have to be in the US, but it is. Can be easily removed with an ECU reflash.

And some other stuff to overcome it.
I don't think, this will be the reason for the speed limiter.
Honda had some chassis problems with other models in the past,
e.g. with the early Gold Wings.
Maybe they now want to avoid them.

But the main reason for letting it be installed in foreign countries may
be simple the fact, they'd been to lazy, to cut the limiter off.

The customer shall be engaged, if he wants to be limitless.

I don't think there's any chassis problems.

You're right. You ride with the Honda's chassis like being in Abraham's Bosom.
