Poor fuel consumption :(
Hello from Australia, folks!

I recently bought a CB1100 2010 year model (known as 2013 in America) with 7,000km on the clock. I’ve gone through 4 tanks and noticed my fuel consumption is nowhere as good what owners have been getting on this forum.

I average about 140km and the bar starts to flash. Tyres are right pressure and I ride quite conservatively around city traffic. Filled up with 98 octane also. I’m not sure what could be wrong? Surely it cannot be this bad. Any suggestions?

How many liters to refill at 140 km? One thing I have noticed it the fuel guage starts flashing with about 1 US gallon left in the tank (not sure of the conversation at the moment).

Hi Lemontree, for me the bar tends to start flashing between 180 and 190Km, but can be earlier depending on the type of riding. I'm not a hard rider by any means and tend to fill up around 230Km with 12 - 12.5L of fuel. The max distance obtained before almost running out of fuel 275Km. I allow a max distance of 50Km after the bar starts flashing to fill up so I don't run out. Average fuel consumption since I got the bike is about 5.5 L/100Km or 50 -51 MPG.

RE: Poor fuel consumption :(
Hi Lemontree; fuel consumption was one of my concerns when I first got the CB. Less than 200 k's on a tank of juice WTF! might as well be riding a Harley. Sadly the tanks are small but the riding pleasure makes up for it. It seems that most people are getting around 5 or 5.5 litres to 100 k's. Also don't be confused by the MPG figures as an American gallon is only around .8 of a UK gallon. I try to squeeze in every last drop that will fit when I fuel up, my bar starts flashing (not a good turn of phrase) around 170 or 180 with around another 40 to go.
Got to love everything else about the bike though!
Ride safe Smile

Thanks for the input guys. What octane fuel are you guys filling up? Sounds like 5.5L per 100km is the norm. Maybe a power commander or reflash may work?

You can do a test ride, just ride a whole tank only
driving up to 90km/h in the highest gear. It will take some discipline.
Not many riders are willing to do the test.

But, and this important, only than you will get an idea of how low the
fuel consumption of your CB can be.

On the other hand it is afterwards very easy to push the consumption into unknown heights.

Wisedrum, mostly be a testriderSmile

RE: Poor fuel consumption :(
I regularly get 220km out of mine usually putting 12.5 litres in at fill up. I run with 95 octane most of the time when it's available.

Fuel consumption is really not that crash hot when I compare it to my Isuzu Dmax ute. I regularly see 5.5litres per hundred km on the scan guage when cruising at 100km per hour. Big difference between 240kg and 1800kg.

RE: Poor fuel consumption :(
With my '10 model ( slightly smaller tank than a '13) fuel consumption varies considerably with riding conditions. In Sydney traffic I am lucky to get 190kms out of the tank. Always in first or second with short periods in third. When I tour I can get 240 and some out of a tank.

Cheers
