I'm not a mod guy. I've been restoring old cars and motorcycles for 30 years. But I agree with you. Wonderful bike but it needs the twins. I am slowing collecting up all the pieces and your thread is very helpful. I am planning on having my side covers painted too. I like the Standard with twin pipes more than the Deluxe. Tank looks too big too me.

Just noticed the sprocket cover. Nice.

Thanks, Steverino. I also liked the black and aluminum wheels on the 2013 model as opposed to DLX wheels.

I have a DLX, but I agree on the tank size, l like the smaller one better. I considered going to Whitehouse, but have to much invested into the cowl & seat to change gears now. Any plans for the rear fender/lights ?

Thanks, Motogeezer! This all started with you selling me your DLX headers! Excited

Right now I like the rear fender staying chrome, but that might be because I haven't found a painted rear fender shaped to my liking. I did think about getting the chrome removed from a stock CB1100 rear fender and getting it painted to match our color, but I was waiting to see if the aftermarket would come up with something I like. Until then, it stays chrome.

(12-30-2015 05:50 PM)Ron in MO Wrote:  I have seen several posts asking if the 2014 DLX four into two exhaust system can be installed on a 2013 CB1100 and the short answer is yes. It's not cheap! Even with picking up a set of used DLX headers and aftermarket slip-on mufflers, I spent right at $1,400 on this conversion.

Here is the Honda OEM parts you will need to purchase with prices from Pro Caliber. Note that the big dollar items are the left foot peg holder (left step holder) and left muffler cover. You can reuse the right muffler cover or not use muffler covers at all if you don't mind the black area behind the catalytic converters showing.

OEM Parts Needed for Four into Two Exhaust Conversion:
GASKET, EX. PIPE (4 @ $3.00)
Item #18291-MM5-860
HOLDER, L. STEP (1 @ $154.42)
Item #50750-MGC-N20
RUBBER, MUFFLER MOUNTING (1 @ $7.05)
Item #18421-MBT-D21
COLLAR, MUFFLER MOUNTING (1 @ $4.35)
Item #18422-MGC-N20
BOLT, SPECIAL FLANGE (8X50) (1 @ $3.76)
Item #90109-MZ5-000
WASHER (8.5X26) (1 @ $1.92)
Item #90504-ME4-000
NUT, FLANGE (8MM) (1 @ $0.95)
Item # 94050-08040
COVER, L. MUFFLER (1 @ $41.50)
Item #18525-MGC-N20
RUBBER, PROTECTOR MOUNTING (1 @ $1.59)
Item #18357-MCG-000
SCREW, SPECIAL (6X14) (1 @ $1.32)
Item #90114-MCJ-000
Total Cost: $228.86

This picture of the standard and deluxe left step holder, shows that you need the deluxe version for the muffler mounting bracket molded in at the rear.

Removal of the original four into one exhaust is pretty straight forward. You have to remove the center stand and pick up DLX stand, plus fabricate a new spring mount if you want to retain this capability. I have the DLX center stand, but haven't come up with the spring mount yet, so it's still off for now.

Mounting the right engine header is easy since it uses the same mount locations and hardware that the original system used on that side. When mounting the left engine header, you will have to fabricate a mount just ahead of where the transmission shift lever comes out of the engine. I used the OEM hardware and rested the rubber bushing on the frame and everything feels solid. Don't forget to install new exhaust port gaskets, since the originals will be smashed from the first header.

I picked up a set of Over Racing slip-on mufflers from Samurider and they really look like good quality units. Installation was very easy, once you install the new bushing hardware on the new left step holder. I didn't like the gap left in between the muffler connections and the header catalytic converter side covers so I took the stock muffler covers and cut them down to fit this gap. Then I bolted them to hose clamps to attach them. I think it turned out pretty well, but had to cut a slot in the left cover which allows the kickstand to fully retract.

All in all, this project went very well and the new sound it great! Not to mention that I love the looks! Now I'm waiting for my fairing, side covers and engine guards to get her ready for riding season.

Here are pictures of the finished product:

That’s impressive work. I would love that setup but am not handy with metal fabrication and am scared of the $1,400 price tag just for parts.
