Backhanded Compliment
This is in MCN this week and although it states that the CB1100 was never the sales success it wanted to be, it is still a quality bike worth buying. Obviously owned by the more discerning motorcyclist.

The CB1100 certainly isn't a flop in my mind... I love this bike.

RE: Backhanded Compliment
You know moto journalists are a jaded bunch. They get to ride brand new bikes for a day or two and don't live with any of them long enough to run into the problems a lot of them have. They also have been dealing with mega horsepower, razor edge handling liter sport bikes for the last decade. I can understand why moto journalists might be dissapointed in the CB 1100 compared to a modern sport bike, but I am really disapointed with their inability to recognize what/why the CB is like it is. If they read and understood the designers intention with this bike they would realize that Honda hit an absolute home run and would acknowledge such.

Maybe on the sales floor, but not in my heart. Out of all the bikes I have owned, it has/is my favorite.

If you have ever rode one, it would be hard to talk bad about it. I use mine for mostly city/hwy commuting to work every day weather permitting, no colder then 35, and for me it is the perfect bike.

If you google "Phil West CB1100" you will find a video, and article, he did when the bike was introduced in Europe. 1/23/13

I felt like it was a very fair review.

Now he is presenting assumptions about the lack of sales.

Agree or disagree, but don't shoot the messenger!

Agree with that first part. Part of what you expect from all motor journalists is the ability to put themselves in the shoes of the expected buyers and to analyze things in terms of how it fits their needs. This is one of the reasons I'd way rather read forum posts or reviews from a small selection of good writers than probably 95% of the mainstream motorcycle press.

That said, I guess the point of this bike did seem to go over the heads of a lot of the motoring press, so...

I'm with you brother ferret...
I dumped all of my main stream motorcycle magazine subscriptions (except MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS) a couple of years ago because I got tired of "THE TOP LITER SPORT BIKE SHOOTOUT" and the "TOP 1/2 LITER SPORT BIKE SHOOT OUT" and the way too expensive and impractical "EURO EXOTIC BIKE" stories.
