Day 1: Chicago, IL to St. Charles, MO
Epilogue (or Day 2 Prologue?)
21:09
Interstate riding brings about its own special kind of fatigue. Distinctly different than riding on two-lane roads. I attribute the difference to monotony. Fortunately, our route planners had inserted a few wrinkles in our otherwise pressed-and-starched ride. From now on, though, we would be on the wrinkly roads for the most part and it was time to review Glen's plan for Day 2.
We had learned about a tropical storm, but it was still in the Gulf of Mexico and was of little consequence to us at this point. However, the waves of storms which were plaguing the Midwest that spring were of consequence this night and precipitation potential would factor greatly in our daily route planning for the remainder of our trip.
Weather apps would be open and their forecasts coordinated with all of our future route mapping.
The beer flowed freely in the small but comfortable hospitality room at our motel. They had a high-top table on to which we could spread out our maps. I don't recall the exact types of beer, but both tasted great and both growlers were finished while reviewing the plan of action for Day 2 --64 ounces each or 3.8 Litres (Cormanus, do not expect the courtesy of other such conversions from here on out).
Optimists that we are, we decided to follow Glen's original route for the day and we laid our heads to rest that night hoping that the rain would move north and east overnight.
It did not.
