Phase One completed

Completed phase one of the conversion this weekend. Emgo fairing and Fuzzy's shorty exhaust mod, (thanks, Fuzzy!). She's making progress. Next up is getting rid of that ugly chirstmas tree on the rear fender.

Coming along nicely, Apathy. There's a good thread on the forum by Chipbeck on how to tidy up the license plate. It sounds like you're going to tackle more than just the license plate out back, but Chip's how-to would be a good start.

Hey Fuzzy, you know anybody in the Houston area who does custom seat fabs? I've pretty well decided what I want to do with the rear end (hint: the entire fender is going bye-bye) but upholstering is beyond my fabrication skill set.

More I look at the bike, the more I'm convinced that rear fender is the single biggest problem with the aesthetics. Look at the top of this page. Put the end of your finger over the rear fender so you can only see the wheel and turn signals... See what I mean?

Low bars, custom seat, fairing, exhaust. All those things will help get it there. But first, that fender's gotta go.

Did Ken Fontenot install the Emgo for you at his shop on Clay Rd?
He said he was going to do one on a CB1100 and yours looks great!
The price is definately right!

I did indeed buy it from Ken. I try to purchase my motorcycling goods and equipment from Cycle Sports to support them whenever possible. It's the best shop I've found in this area, he and his staff are very friendly and helpful, and they have a real love for the old 60s and 70s metric bikes. Some of their racer conversions and refurbs are downright drool-worthy.

I did the fairing installation myself. It's not complicated, but the fitment is a bit fidgety, being a generic. There are minor collision issues, specifically with the turn signal posts, but nothing you can't work around with a little experimentation. And, as you say, for 75 bucks I'm not complaining if it doesn't have show-bike perfect fitment. I ride my bikes, not display them -- and at the speed I usually zip through traffic, nobody's gonna notice how the bike looks, anyway.
