RE: New CB1100's for 2017
The "Type 2" looks like a would-be copycat of the recently introduced 2016 Triumph Thruxton R. Lots of similarities . . . but I sure hope Honda's version does not list for $14500 like Triumph's new bike!
The proposed "standard" model for 2017 now looks like a "deluxe" with twin exhaust pipes. The headlight and instrument pods are chromed and that yellow tank looks slightly different with newly styled "HONDA" raised emblems. Looks like a nicer seat too. I wonder if ABS will become a standard feature? I like it! The yellow tank not so much!
Also mentioned in the same journalist's late December article was the possibility of a future "CB Four" (900cc) model . . . interesting!

RE: New CB1100's for 2017
If the CB, the first time it appeared on the market, would've looked like the shown CB for 2017, I would not have bought it back in 2013.
Nice engine but the pseudo cafe racer outfit or whatever it should be is not of any interest to me.

I'm with you Wisedrum. While I can appreciate the cafe racer look, it really isn't my thing — especially as I continue to age. To put it a different way: I'm certainly no Burt Munro and I don't need any further assistance proving that point, lol. Still, if it becomes a reality, the cafe racer inspired CB1100 might end up drawing more younger riders to the bike. Which is fine by me.

I think it will draw 'old' riders as well. I'm 58 and I'd buy and ride that thing in a minute. MY 75 year old mate rode the Thruxton R last week and is ordering one. Age is a state of mind, and perhaps, of knees.
No more CB, but a GB.
Triumphs and Ducatis.
A Norton, MV, and Morini 175.
Probably others.

I really liked the looks of my 13, and love the looks of my 14 dlx. Wouldn't buy a 17 Cafe for the looks though even though I find some cafe's, incl this one, really well done, I just prefer the looks of a ujm. For example I would choose the T120 like my brothers over a Truxton R even thought the R is better eqipped and has a stonger motor. I do think they jacked the rear end up too high on the R.

Yes, one can't under value the look of the bike. If it floats your boat, it's the right one. The CB DLX suffers in my eye compared to the standard, with the more bulbous tank and extra/ unnecessary weight of the dual exhaust a drawback. But that's just me. If I keep my '13, I'd likely lean it a little more towards the cafe side, but not too far. Being moto- promiscuous, every bike has it's beauty.

This sums things up quite nicely.
As for the age thing, my knees are actually in great shape for a 54 yaar old, I suppose I just have a certain image of myself in my own mind when it comes to me and bikes. That image will probably get a bit cloudy as my eyes degrade over time, lol. As for Capo and others who do dig the cafe racer look, more power to you. We all have our own individual preferences and variety is the spice of life as they say.

I agree with Ferret. I do like the entire Cafe Bike scene also but I think the Thruxton R does look like they jacked the rear end up too high. Looks a little wierd to me. I like the new Triumph's and I am sure the bikes will bridge a much larger riding segment than Honda did with the CB1100's. I like the looks of our CB1100's especially our Deluxes. I don't think for the money I could be happier with a bike. I have spent more money on bikes and overall haven't been happier. So this speaks volumes for our bikes. I think for long distance riding I would have a different bike like my R12RT's or ST1300 but it would be an additional bike. I would not want to sell my CB.

I also agree.
I like the looks of the Triumph T120 because it looks like a real British motorcycle should.
The same goes for the CB1100. It looks like a "proper" Japanese motorcycle should.
Yes, there are much faster bikes out there with gobs of power, but that's not what appeals to me. Both models have plenty of performance for my style of riding and I think I look pretty darn good riding them
