I'm playing catch up and have only seen Ep1. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing award-winning, but it held my interest. I'll keep watching.

I am enjoying it so far, and even though I didn't own my first Harley until 1989 I love owning and riding my current Dyna, infact it is one of the most enjoyable bikes I have owned!

Pretty sure that they're not covering 80 years of motorcycles in this series. It's billed as the story of the founding of a company and its founders, not as a history of the brand. I don't know a thing about the show's attention to accuracy, but I think the story as told is interesting.

ahh that would make sense. I'll be watching tonight to see how far into Harley's history they get. I fancy myself a bit of a motorcycle historian but reference books, at least the ones I own, have never gotten into the minutia like one of the Davidsons being a hot head, how they could barely agree on anything, how Harley was really the brilliant man and engineering mind behind the company, which would have folded like a newspaper had he not decided to join the Davidsons, what cruds the owner and management of Indian were etc ... I wonder how much is factual and how much is literary license to make the show interesting.

I always try to remind myself to think "Based on a True Story" means "Fiction".

Perhaps based on reality in the same sense that "Alice in Wonderland" is based on the "War of the Roses".

Watching episode 2 now and enjoying it so far. It's a decent show, with good production values for TV. Don't know enough about the actual history to say how accurate it is...

The timeline of the show makes sense to me now, but only after reading what was below a pic at the very end. The '36 EL Knuckle was the last Harley released under the guidance and design of the 3 original founders.

RE: Harley and the Davidson's mini series on Discovery
I owned 49, 56, 57 pans, and 59 and 94 Sportsters, and test rode a 1995 Dyna Convertible which I really liked, but honestly for the most part the bikes don't fit me or suit me. Now if they would have made a Dyna Sport Tourer with standard ergos, feet under hips, flat seat, about 6 or 7 gals gas capacity, fi, triple disc brakes, a fairing, bags and trunk, that didn't look like add ons I'd have been tempted, but being Harley they would have wanted $25 large for it and I got my Honda ST 1300 which has all that stuff plus shaft drive as a two year old new left over for $10K.

I still can't comprehend Harley not getting in on the sport touring market. Wouldn't be difficult to take an existing motor, drive train, wheels, brakes etc and stick them in a new frame and add a nice seat some wind protection and storage I wouldn't think. It confounds me.
