Happy Birthday CB!
I received an email today from the shop where I bought my CB. The email states that two years ago today, I bought my "sportbike." Haha. For the record, I did not vote that the CB was a sportbike in our forum poll. The email also stated that if "I was ready to upgrade" they were hoping to regain my business.

Unfortunately for them, trading in my CB is not even on the radar and it's hard to imagine what I'd be buying that I'd consider an "upgrade." That, and a little funny business in the sales office when it came time for buying an extended warranty has convinced me that I won't be going back to that shop any time soon.

Two years ago ... time flies when you love your motorcycle.

Happy Birthday CB!
Does anyone know what kind of incentive they receive for selling an extended warranty?
That was also the only unpleasant part of my purchase. After politely saying no about five times I requested that she please stop wasting my time and not mention it again, but she still couldn't stop herself. I think I heard it three more times, and continued to ask her to stop. If it had been an item that I could have gotten somewhere else for the same price ($6700 out the door), I would have walked.

RE: Happy Birthday CB!
Generally the shop gets 50% of the retail price on an extended warranty, at least thas how it was when I was in the business. The salesperson gets a cut of that. The same with Life accident and health insurance although I dont know if they even sell that anymore.

Sometimes the shop will offer an additional bonus to the sales staff of x amt of dollars for each warranty or insurance policy sold, on top of regular commission.

We also used to get a cut of the freight and set up charged.

Sales is a simple game ... the more you sell and the more you sell it for, the more commission you make.

So it is significant, and I would imagine that there's a bit of shame associated with letting the whole team down by failing to make the sale.
I still don't care. I have bitten a few times, and can only remember breaking even once on a TV back in the 80's.

RE: Happy Birthday CB!
I'm embarrassed to say that I have just under 8000 miles in two years of ownership! I changed the oil and filter and cleaned and adjusted the chain the other day. I plan on flushing the brake fluid and changing out the spark plugs but am debating whether to have the valves checked. Kmoney has a nice how-to on that but I believe it may be beyond my abilities.

We celebrated her birthday by riding in this year's DGR where she was very well received and stood out quite nicely in the sea of Triumphs.
