That boilerplate tech now includes benchmark mapping changes and "learning" driving habits. For example, if a driver is too heavy on the gas with a lot of jackrabbit starts, the ECU can soften up the inital throttle delivery to save fuel. It's part of the overal mpg strategy. I have noticed this in my Subaru big time. I don't like it.
